HikingGreat!

This was our favorite stop of the short hikes. Continue past the paved portion for even better views. Two herds of bison were visible close by. A coal ribbon fire provides interest. The smoke is easily visible from the paved path and hiking trail.

HikingGreat!

A very short hike. I recommend going past the pavement all the way to the outcropping. Sat there for a long time taking in one of the best views of the park along with watching dozens of buffalo roam the area. This is a good family stop, and is also wheelchair accessible until the pavement stops. A must-stop.

HikingGreat!No shade

If you keep going beyond the bench out to the outcropping, the view will take your breath away. well, it was 26 degrees today, so that might have had something to do with it, but I saw dozens upon dozens of bison out in the vista, and there was smoke coming from what I learned was the coal veins down in the canyons. beautiful and easy hike.

Super cool views of the surrounding buttes! A skinny trail that is right on the edge of a decent fall, so watch your footing.

This is a maximum views for minimal effort trail. The first part of the trail is paved and accessible and offers a truly spectacular view over the interior of the park. A dirt path extends further to get a wider view. Be sure to look down for interesting mineral deposits and rock formations! On occasion you can see smoke from the burning coal veins. Super beautiful!

Very short but with a little hill and some people were extending the hike and making their way down into the badlands area. Really awesome views of the badlands! There are more colors here than in the South Dakota Badlands because there's way more plant life and stripes in the formations (mostly browns but some reds, sometimes a greenish hue and sometimes even a blueish/blackish [this latter more in the North Unit]).

One of the most iconic views I've experienced -- Rolling badlands as far as the eye can see, dotted with roaming bison. If you're comfortable with the terrain, make sure to make your way all the way to the end! The views keep in getting better as you go along

The actual posted trail ends about halfway, but if you keep walking the path all the way to the last overlook, it’s definitely worth it.
