I have not hiked this lately but have in the past, with exception of the little loop near the Over Mountain Shelter/Yellow Mountain Barn. I'm planning on doing this as soon as the weather is a little more mild and am in hopes someone may want to give trail updates if they happen to walk this loop from Carvers Gap. I do know there is a good spring just up hill from the barn closer to the AT. Barn has been a great place to stay in the past, but I'm unsure of its current condition. If Barn is in disrepair and is not a safe place to stay, there are plenty of spots for tents. I've even set up a tent inside the barn in the past for a little more warmth. The walk may be a little more strenuous than moderate, but it's not a bad walk. The first hump out of Carvers Gap is kind of a "Baptism by Fire" start, but will have your legs warmed up for the rest of the walk. Love this area when the Rhodo are in Bloom.
