Carolina North Forest is a beautiful, expansive forest preserve right in the middle of Chapel Hill. There are so many trails you can easily walk anywhere from 1 to 10 miles, depending on your route. The trails are well maintained but not exceptionally well marked. If you start at Sewell Elementary School, there is a trail map; I took a photo with my phone and referred to it while I walked. You can also access from multiple other entry points, including Wilson Park (follow the red trail to the yellow trail from there and you will eventually get to Bolín Creek. One main trail artery is the Bolin Creek OWASA (sewer) easement which runs along Bolin Creek for a few miles. If you get disoriented, you can always make your way back to the creek. Overall, Carolina North Forest is a great place to spend many afternoons--great for trail running, hiking, picnicking, dog-walking, mountain biking and walking with kids.
