Tsali Trails - Mouse Branch Loop Trail with Overlook Loop is a 8 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Robbinsville, North Carolina that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until October.
We took the right loop 2nd alternate. It's about an 8 mile hike. The right loop is a small path wide enough for one person. We did the hike early April and were lucky not to meet a single person, horse or bike rider. A beautiful hike with a nice scenery overlooking the lake and through mostly wooded area.
The trails yesterday were in pretty good condition after overnight rain. We only saw one other rider so it was great having the trails to ourselves. Mostly gradual climbing and fast descents. Some of the single track is built along the some steep hillsides so ignore the surrounding and gorgeous views and keep eyes on trail, unless taking a break. Beautiful views at the overlook.
From car to car it's actually 8.5 miles. Beautiful hike and loved the trails. Felt sorry for the lady whose husband drug her through on a bike going in the not recommended direction. The hills in that direction were killers. What I loved most is with three of our four hikers having knee, feet, and hip issues, we really wanted a hike without the steep climbs most of this region has to offer. And we still got the beautiful views a peak climb would offer!
Mouse Branch trail was fun. You can move at a fast pace. Slope up to the overlook is a little tricky. Overall I think it should rate as an easy-moderate. Good trails, but lots of rocks.
The overlook loop is awesome. Not to be missed.
Awesome trail that loops back to parking area. Great views of Fontana Lake. Hope to get back there soon.
Talk about everything you ever wanted in a mountain bike trail crammed into 7 of the most glorious miles you have ever rode! Minus the gnarly wipe out I had on one of the swtichback infested downhills, Mouse Branch is the best trail I have ever rode. Knowing that I am only 2.5 hours away from Tsali and these trails, I will be making a few weekend trips back up there to ride Mouse again!
This loop at the Tsali Recreation Area is an amazing old forest road that has been turned into a single track with a great scenic overlook that can be taken. The trail has some great downhill stretches as well as good moderate grade climbs the scenery is worth the trip. Although the crowds were a little heavier the way the trail is designed it is easy to allow riders to pass. Keep in mind Tues, Thurs, and Sat are the days that Mouse and Thompson are open for bikers.
