Townsend Trail is a 7.2 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Greensboro, North Carolina that features a lake and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and bird watching and is best used from April until September. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
It took me a while to find the trail but once I got there the view of the lake made up for it!
Short distance in woods then walk across parking lot to get to largest part of trail in the woods
Beautiful Trail, easy to moderate. Very popular. Moderate-to-high traffic.
Such a great trail for water lovers, as so much of the trail is lake adjacent. The trail head is a little tough to find. Park between soccer fields 12-13 if possible; during COVID we had to park in the 14-17 lot and walk to the 12-13 fields — just follow white dot-marked signage. The beginning of the trail is indeed around soccer fields and behind residences, but about 1.5 miles in it becomes quite scenic. Very shaded and therefore a tad muddy in parts. But overall a good trail, we’ll definitely be back.
you can see the trail pretty well but it seems like not too many people hike this one. in some areas, it doesnt look like youre on the trail anymore
I really enjoyed the beauty of this trail. Well-maintained and well marked. The lake views were beautiful as well as all the birch trees. The downside to this trail as it’s rather close to the back of several houses and at times felt almost as if I were trespassing even though this is a public trail. I was even startled by loudly barking dogs in the back of one person‘s property. That kind of took away from the nature feel of the trail. Overall it is an easy trail to hike and very pretty views. Also note the trail head is between new soccer field 12 and 13.
I feel this is labeled wrong should be considered moderate. Lots of hills even though they are not long climbs and even stairs to climb. Townsend trail is actually 3.8 miles out and back. You can continue on to Osprey trail to add additional distance. Nice hike even saw a few deer.
Went to check out this trail because I love rarely used trails! Got to the park and spent an hour looking for the trail head - what I found was a very new soccer complex and a new trail head not to be seen! Going to try to find a different place to jump on this trail. Very disappointed.
