Short and mellow hike. Combine with the Cascades loop trail for a great out-and-back hike that is approx. 2 miles (just continue through the Cascades trail parking lot to the trailhead past the restrooms).

Combine with Cascades for sure.

short, sweet, and nice way to stretch your legs.

Easy trail for someone who wants a short hike or in my case learning to hike again. A couple places to rest. Very peaceful and mostly flat.

Cool, short hike. Old structures still standing from early settlers. Recommend taking the connecting trail to cascades.

Would only recommend if you go all the way to the Cascades. We connected two short trails (Tompkins Knob and Cascades) to make a nice little hour long hike. The Cascades were gorgeous all frozen over in early January. Liked adding Tompkins on just to add a little to the hike. Very easy hike for all ages and ability levels. The Cascades are the highlight here though. So if you just want a really short journey, drive a mile up the road and visit the Cascades from their own parking lot.

easy and we'll maintained, however the best view is in the parking lots

Very easy walk and well maintained. Too close to road for my liking and not much to see along the way except a few old buildings.

it was an ok trail really easy and flat woodland.

A relatively flat, wooded trail. Definitely don't miss out on continuing on to Cascade Falls.

By itself, a nice short walk in the woods. No views and it can be noisy, as it follows the Blue Ridge Parkway closely (but mostly below and out of sight). But there is a picturesque old log cabin. And the trail works well with the Cascades Falls Trail if you would like to add an extra 1.2 miles to your hike.
