This hike is a combination of three trails in Cliffs of the Neuse State Park: Lake Trail, Spanish Moss Trail and Longleaf Trail. The highlight of the hike is the over look of the Neuse River up on the cliffs and then along the lake shore. The trail is fairly flat and well marked traversing mostly through woods. The Lakeshore trail is the longest. Along the shorter Spanish Moss trail there are some steep descents and accents. You can go down to the river along here.

Wonderful Sandy path! My family and dog loved the trail. We had my Mom with us and she does not typically hike though she found the path easy. We just didn’t go far since she is gaining stamina. There was a bit of foot traffic every ten min but it was manageable. No one wears masks in this area, so with pandemic I would be mindful of that.

A very family friendly trail. Not too steep, relatively low number of roots and rocks. Be aware of flooding after heavy rain.

RunningFlooded

Good trail for running. A couple of nice views of the river and a lake, otherwise pretty secluded through the woods. There were small loop sections that were flooded, so after cutting those out it was less than 4 miles, maybe closer to 3.5, but still a good distance. The park ranger said they're normally open. I went while it was raining and it has pretty solid topsoil. I never once sunk my foot into mud even though everything was soaked (including me) from the rain. The visitors center is nice, has clean bathrooms, and has maps you can bring with you.

It was my first time to this state park. I chose this load because of the distance for a trail run/hike. I went on a partially sunny day, and the trail conditions we’re pretty awesome. Nothing was wet, no rain the couple days prior. Well Mark pass for about the first 2/3 of it. For the last third of this loop, the trail is soon as clear as the rest of it. I recommend downloading the Maps for recording your hike so you can stay on track. Do you have to cut through a parking lot across a small green meadow, and you end up going left at the tire tracks closer to the end.

This hike consisted of a combination of three trails in Cliffs of the Neuse State Park near LaGrange,NC.- Lake Shore, Spanish Moss and Longleaf. The high lite of the hike is the over look of the Neuse River up on the cliffs and then along the lake shore of the recreational lake. The trail is fairly flat and well marked traversing mostly through woods. The Lakeshore trail is the longest and was the prettiest. Along the shorter Spanish Moss trail there are some steep descents and accents. You can go down to the river along here. Totally combined it was approximately 8 miles.
