From Thomas Divide trailhead the trail heads up to a ridgeline and gains elevation until about the Newton Bald trailhead where it begins to lose elevation. After rain there are several wet crossings with some logs and rocks. The beginning of the trail is rocky and rooty but improves further down the trail.
