Trail is currently closed per Forest Service order number 08-11-07-20-071. For more information on the order, see: https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/nfsnc/alerts-notices/?aid=57867 This trail is only open between April-December. Camping is allowed anywhere but a permit is required Fri-Sun and on holidays. The paved road to the top also closes seasonally due to weather. You may need to park at the base of the road and it will add 1.4 miles to the hike. Table Rock Trail is a 1 mile trail to the summit of a rocky ridge that looks flat from a distance. This trail, along with the trail to Hawksbill Mountain just down the road is one of the few developed, maintained, and signed trails just outside the Linville Gorge wilderness boundary. This short and moderate hike takes you to spectacular views into the Gorge and offers a 360 degree view of the surrounding Pisgah Forest in the Grandfather Mountain Ranger District. Features include the Chimneys, which are a popular rock climbing destination. You can also view Peregrine Falcons in the area. Rock scrambling is required along the ridge and some areas are exposed cliffs, so use caution, especially with children.

It's open and pretty quiet if you get an early start! I stopped just shy of the summit because my fear of heights was getting to me, but got some amazing views up until then! Be prepared to drive quite a ways on dirt/gravel roads to get to the trailhead.

I definitely recommend this trail. We took a few different ways and saw 2 amazing views.

My favorite trail in the region. Never a dull moment with views in all directions. The only downside is the terrible road to get there.

Steep but short climb to the top and well worth it for 360 views! The sunset was breathtaking.

Beautiful at top. Lots of bugs today.

Incredibly great views of a varied landscape and geology unique to the Appalachians. Great views of the black mountains, grandfather, and roan highlands to the west and the piedmont to the East

Road to the parking lot closed for the winter. Adds ~1.4mi each way of asphalt switchbacks, not the most enjoyable prologue or epilogue to the delightful hike itself. My 4 and 7 year old kids enjoyed the summit and hike even in the face of intermittent ice and mud from the recent snowmelt. Beautiful view. Not crowded at all in February.

Amazing! Had views all hike! Climbing around the Chimneys was a lot of fun and the views from the summit of Table Rock were worth it! Make sure you detour off the trail this Mark's and follow the trail to the summit. Based on other reviews I did the home counter clockwise and I'm sure glad I did!

Weather was rainy but didn’t stop us we love the outdoors highly recommended to do the gate at the bottom is locked so that will add 1.45 mile to the parking lot and then you have about 1.2 mile hike to the summit have fun stay safe!!!!!

Fairly moderate trail to the summit. Trail was in good condition with steep cliffs on the sides. Great views into the gorge and views the chimneys.

WARNING: The paved road to the top is closed. You need to park at the base of the road. This adds 1.4 miles each way to the hike. It’s steep uphill asphalt until you get to the trailhead. The trail itself is nice. Ridgeline with views. Was crystal cheat today and very windy. Huge gusts especially at top.

Awesome hike. Decent amount of uphill all the way to the top but the views are worth it. Well marked and ample parking at the trailhead. Don’t miss this hike if you’re in the area.

This was a great loop. It was 60 degrees and sunny at the end of December. I went counter clockwise and the first uphill was quite tough. There are easier ways to see table rock but this route was worth it. 10/10 Day

Strenuous and challenging hike. Wonderful views. The other challenging aspect is driving the last 3 miles of rocky unpaved and very very bumpy driving. Be ready to drive very slowly or your car suspension will take a beating. The last couple of miles is a one lane road that goes around some serious curves and elevation changes.

We went day after Thanksgiving. Worst part was the drive in on the dirt road. I drove a Toyota Camry and drug a few times going in . The road is better suited to trucks or SUV. Once we saw the sign to Table Rock the road turned into a paved road, The hike was up was not bad at all. Coming down was a little more tricky. I suggest hiking poles. It would have been difficult if had not had them. The climb to the top was worth every step!!! Beautiful view !!!

Hiked this trail today and it is one of our favorites. Fall colors were spectacular. Because much of the trail went along a ridge, the views were beautiful all along the trail. Summit views awesome too. Uphill with some rock scrambling and switchbacks. Lots of places along the trail with a little running water from the heavy rains the past couple days. Trail was not difficult at all. The road going in for several miles was gravel with lots of holes and ruts. Saw lots of cars in the lot so it is manageable. Loved the hike!!

Did this hike a couple of days ago. Was starting to get some nice fall color. Awesome view with another amazing hike within 5 miles driving distance (hawksbill trail). If I were to do it again, I would drive past and do this hike first then hawksbill. Super cool seeing the other's peak from each one's summit!

This was a great shorter hike with well marked trails and several off shoots to enjoy the scenery in peace if you choose. It was a bit busy the afternoon I went, but at the top the view was worth it. The vertical was nice light workout. At the top you are on a kinda of "spine ridge" of the mountain, so feel free to travel along the back and see some different views. Overall worth it!
