Very easy. You walk on a dirt road. Cars can drive on the trail as well. Other than that, it's a great place to go day or night
Pretty scenery and view of Highlands. Got there a bit early for sunset. Will return for photos.
Super easy hike. There is parking at top for a few vehicles, but not that far from the nature center parking lot. Very nice view at the top and nice benches to sit on.
A popular sunset destination in Highlands, NC, Sunset Rock "trail" takes you up a half-mile gravel road to an exposed granite rock face overlooking the town and Brushy Face Mountain to the west. From Highlands downtown, take Main Street to Horse Cove Road to the Highlands Nature Center and Botanical Gardens. Park right across the street and follow the sign to Sunset Rock and Ravenel Park. The trail is now marked "Hiking Trail Only" and is a private drive so do not block the road - you can actually drive up to a three car parking area at the top near the monument for Ravenel Park. Sunset Rock is to the right. Great place for blankets and some refreshments during sunset or just overlooking the town.
This hike was very easy, so it would be great with pets or even young children/toddlers. Didn't have a sunset when I visited, but the clouds and fog misting over the mountains was a pretty sight.
Best view of Highlands from up high. Well worth the hike at Sunset.
