Well marked loop trail in a beautiful forest with views of huge boulders and rock faces. Extremely popular with rock climbers between October and April. Parking lot is often overflowing on weekends during climbing season. The state park is working on a parking lot expansion that will more than double the parking. This is currently the only trail in this area of the Chimney Rock State Park, but more trails are planned.

So much fun. Not too busy today.

Great trail for kids ages 8 and up because lots of boulders to climb. Do not recommend for less athletic or younger children due to dangers of falling from high up. Parking lot was crowded on the Saturday we went, even during covid

I am glad I took the trail to the right to start the loop as the “stairway” was a bit challenging and it was easier to manage going up than down. Bench at end of loop with a view of Lake Lure.

Nice trail with tons of boulder and cliff views. Not a climber myself, but there are smaller boulders that are easy to scramble up near the real climbing ones. Also a couple nice views of Lake Lure in the distance.

Good trail that takes you past dozens of climbing boulders. Went a few days ago on an unseasonably warm afternoon and it was beautiful, we could see rock climbers on the wall and you can see lake lure from another point in the trail. There’s ample parking at this access and it is also free. Great place to take your time hiking, a great hiking option for a family.

Great trail.. well marked and tons of bouldering rocks along the trail that are fun to climb even if you’re not professional rockclimber or Boulder.. good for children. I took my seven-year-old and toddler

We’ll maintained and we’ll marked. Counterclockwise is upwards ascent for a about a half mile. Makes coming down easy though. Great views of huge boulders and Rumbling Bald and Lake Lure in the fall. Stay on the main loop, no boulders to impede your hike

The offshoots/boulder trails are nice. Use the loop to access them.

Great easy loop hike, especially if you have only 30-40 minutes of time. I've found that because we live so close to this hike, it's one of those we can do quickly and get to in 5 minutes driving. So, if you live in or near or are visiting Chimney Rock or that side of Lake Lure, this is a great trail that's pretty easy. Compared to Party Rock (9/10) difficult, this is probably a 3 or 4 on that scale. Nice hike...not alot of scenery, but loop is well marked.

There has been a recent storm that has caused downed trees. They are working on clearing them. Great trail for those who desire super bouldering and rock climbing sites. As far as the trail, it is marked fairly well although the trail maps along the way are slightly misleading, only one place it crosses a small brook and it has primarily wooded views.

Short, nice trail if you are looking to just get out! Great for pups to stretch their legs!

Fun and not super busy! We got halfway through before realizing it would be quite a bit more uphill. Whoops! Dogs welcomed on leash. Bring water, we were parched thinking we’d made it further along than we had.

Okay trail would be best in fall so you could have a clear view to the Rock faces and such. Also watch out for snakes. I came across about a 5 to 6 foot long eastern diamond back rattle snake coiled up in the center of the small path. very big snake and he blended in very well. didn't know he was there till I was right on top of him rattling his tail and hissing. Lots of ticks on my dog afterwards as well. cool cave and nice rocks to climb.

The chimney rock state park was closed and this was only area open to hike. Nike hike through trees, few inclines, very enjoyable, a few rock steps but very manageable. Will go back to explore more trails. This is only one you don’t have to pay to hike, that is what I understood Access to more difficult rocks and huge boulders, not for me

Nice clearly marked trail. Can see dramatic evidence of the 2017 forest fires. Bolder fields are interesting. The stairs to the top can be treacherous when wet. Overall a very pleasant experience.

Loved this....it’s reviving from the fire nicely... awesome please and the boulders are beautiful !! ❤️❤️❤️

Came here the day after Thanksgiving and parking lot was packed with rock climbers. Never made it on the trail because the ranger suggested we go somewhere else
