A pretty decent trail with very few markings and lots of side trails that can be confusing without a map or some sort of GPS.

Tough trail in places, 6.2 miles is what we registered, very steep in one spot, it worse than Mt. Mitchell, beautiful hike though in many places, very nice grove of hemlocks you go through at one place. Lots of small streams and creeks that meander along the trail in a lot of places.

Great hike. A lot of wildflowers as we got closer to Payne’s knob and the Parkway. Many pink lady slippers and Lily of the valley. Most trails still clear enough to follow in May. Steep in spots. All trails app needed as there are no trail markers and many trails that are not shown on the All trails map.
