Mountains to Sea Trail: US 74A to French Broad River is a 9.4 mile heavily trafficked point-to-point trail located near Asheville, North Carolina that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
This portion of the MST is well taken care of and runs along the parkway for it's duration. It's a great trail to hop on if you want to go on a quick nature break. I don't believe bikes are allowed. It is runner and dog friendly! Downsides: traffic noise from the parkway and various surrounding roads, part of it runs up against a residential area, 2 highway crossings on Parkway bridges. If wanted, you can break it up into smaller segments as there are places to park along the parkway. I've been hiking the MST a lot with a friend or 2 and we'll leave a car at our end point instead of making this an out and back trail. (2 miles to I-26, 3 miles to Hendersonville Rd, 4 miles to NC-74)
Simple hike through the woods. You walk along the Blue Ridge Parkway some and need to cross occasionally. No great views on the portion we did but very well maintained and great woodsy feel.
nice trail, follows the road so will be traffic noise. not much to see but definitely a good running trail. most people I saw on trail were running.
Ran part of this trail and liked it. It’s a good hidden one closer to the road but not very loud early morning.
Didn’t hike too far but a lot of road noise on this section. It runs right along the parkway
Nice undulating trail. A couple muddy spots after the rain and a couple small creek crossings Which are easy. great trail for dogs. went out and back for a total of about 1.7 miles.
My friend and I did this trail one afternoon. We are both young and active, and we did not enjoy this trail! We can only assume it is called mountain to sea because of the frequent elevation changes. We don’t mind steep inclines if there is a rewarding view at the top. However, this hike had continuous inclines followed by downhill treks... closely followed by another steep incline! We saw no views until about 4 miles in when we had to go off the trail to scale rocks to at least make the view worth while before turning around. The view was finally beautiful, but we didn’t even get to see the final overlook because we had to turn around, and therefore felt defeated by the strenuous terrain. Would not recommend!
Great trail just super muddy, but it’s been raining a lot here lately, just had to get out! Beautiful day, just hasn’t dried out lol Great trail though
Fun, simple trail that is easily accessed from multiple spots. Parking may be limited at times and difficult for vehicles with low clearance. Road noise is a bit of a down side but it's perfect if you want to go for a hike/run and not feel like your completely in the wilderness.
