Nice hike along a treeless summit of rolling hills. From the parking area at Max Patch, the trail starts off going north. About 15 minutes into the hike you will come to a sign that indicates the AT to the left and the climb to the top of max Patch to the right. This short 100 yard trail to the top brings you to a grand 360 degree view of NC, TN and Mt. Mitchell to the North East. Simply beautiful. Retrace your steps and head north on the AT. Follow the AT and end this part of the trip at the Roaring Forks AT Shelter.Head south again on the AT and take the long loop trail along the backside of Max Patch. This trail will eventually bring you back to the parking lot where you started.

Max patch is a nice hike. You get great 360 degree views. Sunsets are brilliant. This is a popular place so don't expect any privacy or solitude unless you walk down the AT to the woods. Sadly there were pieces of toilet paper and trash everywhere.

Crown jewel of the AT. You’ll feel like you’re in the sound of music.

This is a great spot to bring a picnic and some chairs and hangout at the top of a hill all day surrounded by mountains. The drive up is kind of long and on a dirt road, so make an afternoon of your time up there since the trail is pretty short.

Loved it! We went when it was quite foggy and the most was beautiful. Definitely hike into the Forrest. Mid-September is beautiful. Reminded me of snow whites Forrest

Great view, not a difficult climb and perfect for dogs. be careful with oncoming traffic driving up and down the mountain as the gravel road is narrow with extreme drop offs periodically.

This is a beautiful trail that leads to a bald. At the top you have a 360 degree view. There's wild cotton that grows and it's really a special place. The ride up to it was a bit crazy though. The roads there are steep and windy!

Even in the misty rain max is beautiful! Took my son and bf there for the first time...my 4th. One of my favorite spots on the way to my pops in canton.

MAX PATCH! This place is awesome. It was like a party on this open field in the middle of nowhere surrounded by mountains. Way cool. Check out my write up with things to look out for and directions.

Nice and easy trail up to an amazing view of the mountains. Depending which way you come, however, there is a pretty big hill that you have to climb to reach the top. If you are coming from the parking lot, you'll be making your way up the steep hill. The view at the top is incredible.

Absolutely beautiful sunrise. Definitely worth getting up really early to go see. Bring cameras and friends and dogs because it's breathtaking. There's a short but steep climb to the view, but it's amazing. If you aren't camping out, make sure you get there in plenty of time to climb to the top before the sunrise begins.

Awesome view. If traveling here from Smokys area do not use Google Maps unless you have a Jeep or 4 Wheeler. Take Harmon Den to Max Patch Road.

Unbelievable views. Long road to get to parking area, but a rather short , but strenuous, hike to the top.
