Mallard Creek Greenway is a 9.2 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Charlotte, North Carolina that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Google maps took me to this location to park but it didn’t have access to the trail so we walked an apartment complex. Beware!
I like this trail. It’s a nice mix of asphalt and gravel. Today it was in rough shape due to the recent heavy rains. There was a lot of standing water, mud, and debris which slowed down my ride but it was still a nice excursion. I’ll definitely ride it again when I’m on this side of town.
Nice greenway. Big buggy. Lots of cyclists, walkers, joggers...all polite and socially distanced.
nice path for walking/running or riding. the trail takes a hard left turn about 3 miles in that was easily missed by me on a bike. staying straight on the path was actually onto Clarks Creek Greenway. somewhere between 1 and 2 miles the path turns to gravel for about 1-2 miles. even on a holiday the path wasn't too crowded. or maybe it was just long enough it spreads everyone out. overall it was enjoyable and well maintained
It was OK it was a good trail enjoy the covered so I'm not in direct sunlight
Located near UNC Charlotte and Kirk Farm Fields, the Mallard Creek Trail is the epitome of the Urban Trail in Charlotte. This portion of the Carolina Thread empties into several University District neighborhoods. It also goes through University Research Park and connects handily to the Toby Creek Greenway. Much of the trail is a paved walkway which seems remote due to the lush greenery and winding creek along the trail. It’s a great way to avoid the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy a nice quiet walk. Neighborhood residents enjoy walking, biking and skating; especially on weekends when schools out. Part of the trail is fairly new and more is planned for the future. Walk with a friend and “Go Out And Play”!
One of my favorite Charlotte area trails to get my long runs in. It’s flat and easy to navigate. I’m able to run 14-15 miles by taking the different offshoots. I’ve always felt safe but after a couple recent assaults on women, I’m nervous to go alone. Please stay aware of your surroundings and enjoy!
We started the “Toby Creek Greenway” Trail at the University of North Carolina, next to Target. This is a fairly new portion of the Mecklenburg County Greenway System. This trail is recorded as 2 miles in length by the County but we extended our hike into the Autumwood neighborhood. The Toby Creek Greenway has several outlets that empty into several Charlotte communities. This is a well cared for asphalt trail with boardwalks. There is a new addition to the trail starting at Rocky River Road West (see pic) that extends the trail approximately another 1/8 mile. Although the trail itself is clear you’ll get the feeling that you’re in a nature preserve, due to the overgrown foliage. We went North but you can go the other way into the UNC Campus and continue on the trail. The trail is super wide and allows room for biking, running, dog walking and other activities. The trail is maintained by Mecklenburg County government. Nice, lightly traveled urban hike in Charlotte. Come out and explore !
Very enjoyable, popular community trail. Mostly gravel or paved, and runs under 85. Plenty wide and lends itself well to walking, running, and bicycling. Not a hike, but you can do several miles in a nice environment.
