This is a great hike with a steady climb. There are only a few points where things get a little technical, but wear the right shoes and it’s not bad. The end is amazing - find a spot to sit down and enjoy the view. NOTE: Users have reported that parking on the dirt road next to the trailhead will result in a fine.

Trail was in great condition and was dry most of the way up (round trip is closer to about 6.5 miles). The hike up is moderate and up-hill most of the way. It will get your heart pumping, but overall it’s very do-able. The view at the top is absolutely worth the hike. The hike back down goes by quick!

The views from the cliff were amazing! However, the round trip was closer to 6.5-7 miles than the 5.7 miles listed.

Pretty strenuous trail at the beginning for a few mins, until you reach the roots section (which wasn’t that hard) and then there’s great views at the top. The way down is extremely easy.

Amazing view from the cliff. Well worth the hike. A lot of beauty on the way to the top too. Limited parking which is good or this trail would get overcrowded.

Trail was in good shape. Starts off with a switchback climb, then turns into a rooty, tight ascend towards the end. Hiked it with my dog.

A little steep for the first mile or so, but then the trail gets really nice. Great views from the top, and the way down was super easy. Completed the downhill in the pitch black darkness, and came out unscathed.

My girlfriend and I hiked this trail this morning. It is a wonderful trail. Shaded the entire time. Mostly gradual slope with some intermittent steep inclines. Views at the top were wonderful. Not too crowded and lots of space at the top to relax and take in the views. Took us 1.5 hours up and 1 hour down with 30 minutes at the top. A totally worthwhile hike !

it's a great hike, but the summer humidity makes it seem harder. This would be better in Fall/Winter to cut down on humidity and bugs. View is beautiful and is a perfect place to take lunch and a book to relax a while.

The view is absolutely amazing, probably top 10 views I’ve ever seen. BUT, it is one heck of a hike to get to. A little further past the half-way marker, the trail becomes more like walking up a water run-off creek. I enjoyed it, but was exhausted afterwards lol

Loved it! Mostly uphill to get to the overlook but very manageable... And, the better news, all downhill coming back! Be careful with kids at the top because there are drops of around 500 feet at the end of a steep, steep grade. Beautiful views, however.

The view is definitely worth the hike!

Had a great time on this hike! We thought it might be too busy given it was a Sunday, but we actually got there later (around 2PM) and we’re able to park right at the trailhead. It took our family (kids age 12,11 and 9) just over an hour to get to the top. To be fair, we usually push the tempo on the way up and take our time a bit more on the way down. The view was amazing! And it was cool for them to have seen Looking Glass Rock from the overlook and then in person. It’s definitely a steep drop off and a rock face at the top, we didn’t push it with seeing how close we could get to the edge. It was a great family hike, not too long/challenging and great payoff at the top. Plus, we saw a bear, which is always fun!

Highly recommend this trail. Moderate is a fair rating. Very muddy and rocky. Unfortunately a lot of erosion that has been aided by hiker short-cuts. (please don't do that)...but the view at the top is spectacular. Hiked with my dog...rather slowly..and it took 3.5 hours in total, including a 30 minute lunch at the top. Enjoy, it's a good one. oh...it's shady!

This trail is an uphill climb, and is definitely NOT a moderate trail in comparison to many other trails we’ve done in the area. We are a fit crew, and it is a difficult constant uphill climb over fairly muddy conditions. The views are well worth it so keep climbing! The end is gorgeous, but it sits on a slanted rock cliff, so not a family friendly hike and was difficult with our dog (though she’s a puppy still). Would recommend this trail, but go knowing it is a hard slog uphill especially in the humidity.

A wonderful trail - nice and shady almost the whole way - with a terrific reward - amazing views - at the top. Moderate rating is appropriate.

The rewarding view at the peak of this trail is worth the hike, even in a downpour! I felt like we hiked straight uphill through a river... then again downhill. Fortunately the weather allowed us the privilege of sunshine and a gorgeous view at the top!

Great trail! Not very much visibility on yesterday when we hiked it but still a good hike! Definitely recommend hiking boots, trekking poles would come in handy in certain spots also. Gets technical at times. Our 4 month old puppy hiked up this mountain like it was NOTHING and loved it. Definitely dog friendly. When we did the hike the lookout was very damp and slippery - be careful on the rock if it’s wet!

So I’m 55 and out of shape so it took awhile. Long hike, esp if you are carrying a heavy backpack to spend the night. About 3/4 way up you cross a flat granite rock that leads out to the left (the helipad). Follow it to the lower overlook view. Well worth the stop. It’s about 25 minutes to the top from there. We hung our hammocks at the top and enjoyed a beautiful sunset with dinner overlooking the cliff. That night Coyotes were howling in the valley as an added bonus.

Beautiful view at the top! We clocked it at a little over 6 miles total. On the way up, it was an easy-moderate the first two miles and a hard-moderate the last mile or so. A little crowded at the top but beautiful. Definitely worth it.

Saw probably 50 people up and down the trail, maybe more. Parking lot full. Maybe the most scenic vista in NC. Definitely top three.

This was a lovely trail! Pretty moderate incline to the top. The main lookout at the end of the trail is gorgeous - and was a bit crowded. We were so thankful this map showed the lookout that is past the helipad. No one else was there and the views were spectacular! Will definitely be adding this to our list of hikes for our guests.

Went on this hike on a weekend in June. We both lift and do cardio 4x a week, but have I my hiked 5-6x.in the past couple of years. This is rated as "moderate" but the last mile up has a lot of step-ups that could make it hard if you don't have the right shoes and are trying to keep a pace. Great hike and the view at the end was worth it!
