When the gate to FR 464A is open (usually open April-December), you can drive down to the end of FR 464A, lowering your mileage on this hike to about 0.7 miles one way. The first 0.5 miles or so is a gentle walk down an old road bed. After the turn off the main roadbed onto the path towards the Upper Falls, the trail drops down a steep mountain side. You have to be comfortable with a narrow steep path, where you'll need to support your weight by ropes attached to the trees by other hikers to navigate this portion. The path to the lower falls from the upper falls is more of the same. The waterfalls are attractive and worth a visit, if you're up for the scramble to get down to them.

With so many better options in the area I can’t recommend. In the winter I imagine it has some good views or maybe in the spring after a good rain the waterfall would be more impressive. Otherwise it’s a nice walk in the woods. We took the long way rather than the shortcut with the steep climb. If you stay on the trail you hit the creek and then go up the first tributary to the falls. No trail but fairly easy to manage. If you go this way it’s just under 8 miles if you park your car at the trailhead suggested by the map and directions. The only other plus is that you are likely to have the trail all to yourself!
