Very noisy trail. You might just walk in the breakdown lane of I-40 instead. Had to pull off trail to let bikers go by. I do not recommend.

This hike is snug against I40. so you can hear traffic all all points of the trail. Was it the best trail ever? no. Was it still a good hike? yes.

HikingGreat!

This is a well maintained trail with a nice view at the top. I gave three stars because of the interstate noise and the fact that there were more bikers than hikers.

biking trail/hiking trail who cares? it's a trail that gets you moving and is kind of strenuous. it's pretty close to I40 and you can hear the cars most of the hike. but it's a good trail, not far from my house. I enjoy hiking it

A nice short hike. I was able to take several photos of wild flowers along the way. Not much traffic except for a few mountain bikes.

Worst hike we have had. Mountain bike race took over the trail with no warning. Impossible to hike and pushed off onto poison ivy or mud constantly

That was a great quick work out of a trail. Switchbacks paralleling I40. Well maintained. Not too busy in a Thursday afternoon.

This is where people start the down hill mountain biking for the long route if that’s what you’re looking to do.

Great little hour long hike. The cliff with the views is not obvious. When you get to the peak, keep going for a little bit until you see a trail with a steepish down grade through some rhododendrons on your left (going west). This trail leads to a small cliff with a good view of the Swannanoa Gap. You can also see Mt Mitchell in the background.

Short hike, well-maintained trail. Enjoyable for what it’s worth, but be sure to bring some headphones to drown out the noise from the interstate.

While it’s not the best trail I’ve ever been on “hiking” wise, I could see it being a great mountain biking trail or even an outdoor running trail. Lots of elevation in the start, not to bad to walk up but I imagine bikers are feeling the pain. While you ride or run you can enjoy the soothing sounds of I40 because it’s all you see and hear. Once at the top though, it really opens up and is a lot quieter. I’d probably come back but mostly for exercise, I just prefer quiet and quaint over bustling interstate.

Relatively short, easy hike. If you can get over the highway noise, the views of the Swannanoa Valley are worth it. There is an overlook rock just past the summit on your left down a small trail. Best views are there, but watch your step, it's about a 50' drop-off.

A bit too much highway noise for my taste. But delightfully empty on a rainy Sunday!

Enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of I40 as you climb your way to an overlook with an obstructed view of mountains and more highway at Kitsuma Peak. Good workout but otherwise the rewards are lacking. May be a decent mountain-bike ride but for hiking, I’d recommend continuing to Catawba Falls instead.

Great spot! As others have said, the trail is primarily used for mountain biking, but just keep a look out for them and you’ll be fine. Overall, the trail is not too steep, and since it’s used for mountain biking, it doesn’t really have logs or rocks you have to climb over, at least on this short part. There are two spots near the top; the first is a shady rock outcropping overlooking Ridgecrest. Keep going and there is a small patch of grass (or in our case leaves) looking out the other way. Would recommend going in the fall/winter for a better view. You can hear the interstate at the top, but it’s not too obtrusive. Not many people when we went, which is a rare find so close to Asheville.

Adequate parking at trailhead. Numerous switchbacks on a wicked initial incline. Great view through the trees from the left trail that goes to the top. Don't let the nasty rocky trail down from the peak deter you, as the rest of the downhill is one of the most thrilling around. A rollercoaster effect like no other with banking turns and rolling downhills. Be aware of hikers on the fast turns! The paved uphill (to the left of the trail base) back is a welcome sight, as the very thought of returning back the way you came is a daunting idea. Great time! Bring strong legs.

It’s really a bike trail... loved it for hiking but you need to watch for bikes coming down. They were very courteous and warned us they were heading our way. It was a pretty place.

Great trail, single track, there are a few things that could be improved like there are some really slippery rocks that go halfway out into the trail
