Lovely trail, lots to offer. Parking at the McDowell House (to the right of Sonic) or at the Upper Gravel Lot. AllTrails directions takes you to the McDowell House. Port-a-Potties there are clean and available. Trail is 8 foot wide paved. Very bike and stroller friendly. Tre beginning has you under part of the highway but quickly becomes quieter and more agricultural with some farm fields on the left and the river on the right. Trash cans? Check. Benches? Check. Picnic Tables? Check. Fishing? Check. Trail Workout Stations? Check (though without directions) Peace and Quiet? Check. This trail was barely in use on a Monday morning but I hope it’s more popular on the weekends. A fantastic use of space and very well maintained. Extra Fun: If you go in the Round Hill Loop (see map) the grave of McDowell and family is at the top of a loose rock incline. A nice surprise. McDowell House to Round Hill Loop: 1 mile Round Hill Loop: .5 miles Round Hill Loop to Upper Gravel Lot: .7 miles Total one way: 2 miles Out and Back: 4 miles No steep inclines or declines (except up to the grave)

I am so happy this trail has reopened after so long. It is beautiful for an after work walk with my dog. It is flat and runs along the river most of the time. The trees provide cover from the sun. I go at least once during each week if I don't have time to get to a hike.

I love taking my daughter here. You can walk, run, fish, swim and picnic here. It’s a beautiful place, an everyone is friendly. You will see a lot of people walking their dogs, fishing or kayaking in the river.

trail is paved and runs mostly along the catawaba river, has a loop that branches off and goes around a hill that the founding family of the county is buried at the top of. the trail to the top of that hill is gravel and a bit of a climb if your not in shape. there is paved parking at one end (behind sonic) and a gravel parking lot at the other end (next to table rock quarry). Dogs are allowed, there are waste collection bags available along the trail. have seen people walking, running, skateboarding, having picnics or swimming in the river, there are places up and down river to launch canoes, kayaks or inner tubes.
