Hiking

I parked near the Dunes visitor parking area and just hiked the sidewalk trail to the water then back. Just follow the map because not too many markers are posted. But there are a few. It’s a moderate hike since your mainly in the sand!

This hike was absolutely beautiful! We veered off the trail quite a bit around the sound. We also enjoyed spending time exploring the dunes too! Well worth the time!

HikingGreat!

Great tour of scrub grasses and trees at the foot of the dunes. On the sound side of the park, so easy to take a quick detour to get your feet wet and cool off. Recommend going in the morning to avoid the heat and benefit from partial shade.

The trail switches between heavy sand and lighter sand with 2 wooden bridges along the way. I did it with some good flip flops that I could take off easily. Nice Smell of pine trees. It was less than 70 degrees so the sand was not too hot.

Short, easy walk along the dunes and sound from the Jockey Ridge State Park at the West Soundside Street access. Unique perspective of dunes and quiet beach spot.

Hiking

The GPS map for this trail is longer than the actual marked trail. Don’t use the GPS map and instead just follow the signs for this well marked trail. Otherwise, you will do some “off-roading”, which was fun. This is a good trail to wear sandals due to the sand. The sound views are excellent and the trail leads almost to a sand beach where you can wade in the sound if you like before getting back on the trail. This was a nice, easy trail.

First to Review

Easy trail primarily through maritime thicket and sound estuary habitats. Several wooden bridges and a wooden staircase make this hike simple and enjoyable, and the views of the Sound cap it all off. Lizards and birds abound, also mosquitoes in the warmer months so be prepared.
