Amazing views! I went at noon on a Monday and parking was not an issue. Bring sunscreen about 70% of the hike has no tree cover. Elevation gains are spread out well between the three peaks.

One of the best I’ve been on. And that’s quite a few at this point. I started record about 1.3 miles in.

This was marked as moderate but I found it to be difficult, however I am not in the best shape either. The beautiful views made it completely worth it. The whole park was amazing. I went on a Friday and it was fairly busy but I would definitely go back again.

Amazing views and not overly crowded. My daughter is an avid hiker at 5 and had difficulty. Overall A+

The Roan balds are truly not to be missed. This is a tried & true hike I’ve done many times & in all seasons (including a snow storm). Each season brings different sights & views. The trail is well-marked.

Walked all 3 balds (Round, Jane, and Grassy Ridge) and back at 4.7 miles. It was the most gorgeous trail I have ever been on! 360 degree views the entire time! Hiked with my family (kids are 9 & 11) and they were tired, but also very glad we went. It was warm (we didn’t expect) and we got pretty sunburned. In mid June the entire mountain will be covered in rhododendrons, and I need to come back again during that time. Most people turned back after Round bald, so it was kinda crowded at first but it thinned out. 10/10 Stars. Would do this Trail again everyday of my life if I lived near.

The bald's are great. I've been twice. The first time I went it was very cold and extremely windy. My daughter did not like the wind and cried most of the hike. We ended up turning around before reaching the first bald. The second time was a better trip, while still windy, we were able to better prepare. We had lunch at the top of Jane Bald.

We hiked up to Jane Bald October 21, 2019 about 11 am. Skies were clear at the camping area of Roan Mountain State Park but by the time we got to the trail head at Carvers Gap it was socked in with low visibility and windy. The trail was great, well maintained with a mix of beautiful forest areas and grand balds. There were no views on the balds but the hike was one of the best, challenging enough with the weather and views of the start of autumn colors on the drive back down Roan Mountain.

we did this hike on 8/18/19. All I have to say is it us amazing. It's definitely a moderate hike. I think the hardest is when you go up the rock steps. It's also a little tough going back when you get to the hill before round bald. The views are so amazing. It's a good workout. We took our time and just took in everything. We plan to make it to Grassy knob next time and have lunch.

Beautiful hike up to the grassy Balds, took us a little longer than expected due to the steep climb at the end. But it was worth it for the views. Recommend going on a cool day because there’s very little shade. We encountered rain on the way down which felt good because it cooled us off. The beautiful panoramic views are breathtaking. Take a good camera

Hiking

This is another great trail that can be a easily accomplished day hike. Starting from the Carver's Gap parking lot, and on past Round Bald, is easy to slightly moderate until you get to the last little bit of Jane Bald, where it gets pretty rocky, trail narrows, and it's a decent climb to the top. Couple areas to catch the breath though along the way, just look for the big flat rocks. Just really getting into longer hikes, and it was really a blast. Hiked about a quater to half mile past Jane Bald. That's where it gets really challenging (from a quick observation)

Moderate pet-friendly hike with a steep start uphill. Well-maintained trail follows the AT through pine forests, open meadows, overhanging rhododendron gardens, and grassy balds with expansive views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Weather can change quickly, so check the forecast and bring rain gear!

Great trail. Harder than expected but very well maintained. Beautiful views, cool to get to see AT culture, but don't expect a ton of solitude. I think its longer than listed here as well. We hiked Roan (little further back than Carvers) to 19E, 2 days, 1 night.
