The trail itself is an out and back, down and up affair to the river. It’s through thick forest so fairly featureless. The payback is the falls and the river. They are lovely, with great swimming holes. Agree about how tough the return leg is though. Hard work.

6 miles of forest service rd, doable by car but probably won't like it. Parking for 8 cars or so. Trail well marked. Tree roots prominent on trail, watch your ankles. Hiking thru mtn laurel tunnel, shady. All downhill/uphill. Couple of fisherman followed me in, catch & release. A great swimming hole. Plenty of flat rocks to layout. Nice falls on feeder stream.

I would classify this as a moderate difficulty level trail due to the elevation - fairly steep downhill on the way to the swimming hole, lots of roots, some small streams to cross. Then, obviously, steep uphill back to the parking area. Walking poles/sticks help a lot.

Watch out for snakes in the bushes near the water. Amazing waterfall to go in! Awesome pool to swim in. Incredible waterfall to climb up to get great photos.

Beautiful trail with thick lush foliage and flowers. Very steep though and was surprised this was rated as “easy” . My calves would say otherwise now the next day

Discovered this trail by accident, looking for a short trail and waterfall to end up the day. Loved the trail. Mountain Laurel forms a tunnel in many areas. Trail is blazed and easy to follow, Hunt Fish Falls is beautiful, and a perfect place for summer swimming. Will plan to return and make a day of it with some of the connecting trails.

This trail runs along a beautiful river and the falls are pretty.. it is hard to get a good photo of the falls but I managed to get a few.

Fun hike with great waterfalls at the end. I don’t agree with the rating and I would say moderate is more appropriate. The hike down is almost a constant slow decline. Overall, Well worth the trip!

This is my favorite swimming hole in the summertime. Beautiful, clean, clear, cold, mountain water.

What goes down must come back up! Just know that, and your hike will be amazing! Beautifully large swim hole! Will go back to swim there this summer . Beautiful falls! Trail is dog friendly, just watch them on slick rocks.

I really enjoyed this trail! A nice, shaded walk down to the falls. I would rate it as moderate though. Even though it's short, the hike out is entirely uphill with some steep sections. The falls are gorgeous! I do recommend watching your step while playing around the rocks at the falls. Snakes enjoy sunning there. We stumbled upon two while there. We also saw lots of interesting mushrooms along the trail.

Trail is well marked. Six mile gravel road to the trailhead is scenic. The falls are beautiful and it is a great hang out spot for me and my dogs EXCEPT - SNAKES! Lots of these under the rock ledges today. Great swim spot though - GO EARLY for solitude.

One of my favorite waterfalls in North Carolina. Not the tallest nor the biggest by volume, but a waterfall that just sits in a pretty setting, with a picture-perfect swimming hole below the falls and an attractive side waterfall coming in (at least in high water). The trail descends down all the way, with a short turn to the right to get to the actual waterfall. Probably attracts swimmers in the summer, but in the spring only had a fisherman and hikers. Trail is friendly for dogs (and kids).

Rating should be Moderate. Going down to the falls was easy, the hike out was not. BUT, it was definitely worth it. Falls were beautiful and we had a wonderful time!

I did this hike on a different route (see recording). In this case it is almost 6 miles, but you can see 2 more large cascades and waterfalls and many small ones on the way. Nice hike, moderate elevation, but the MTS trail is not in the best shapes in many places (treacherous or overgrown or just too narrow). This is definitely a very nice area to hike
