Hunt Fish Falls Trail is a 1.4 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Newland, North Carolina that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and fishing and is best used from March until November. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Be advised...when you go down, you must come up. The trail is sprinkled with all types of shiny quartz and at one point turns into a small stream alongside another stream, which makes you think the trail is over. However, press on. The highlight of this trail was the big rocks in the river but also the tiny fairy home made of mushroom. And the tiny stack of rocks in the hollowed tree.
The trail to the best swimming hole around. Go when it's not crowded!
Steep hike down. We used poles and I’m glad I had them. The trail was completely leaf covered and lots of roots so the poles helped me feel more secure. Falls were beautiful and I imagine this is a great place to go in the summer and take a swim! Rocks were extremely wet and slick despite the fact there hadn’t been any rain in over a week. Would definitely do this again and would like to on a hot summer day!
Great trail with potential for longer options. Lots of rain lately meant the side falls had a great flow today. Would be a good swimming spot and not crowded on a late Sunday
awesome trail. loved jumping off the rocks and swimming. slippery around the main falls.
Easy stroll down a switch back trail system to the falls. Nice for swimming. Good spot to cool off if your in the area.
Took our 9-12 years old kids. The swimming pool at the waterfall is worth the hike. The hike out was more a challenge for the girls as you are coming up. Overall, a great trip.
Great moderate hike to a large swimming hole. Have done this hike several times. Most recent visit included seeing several snakes swimming and on the rocks around the swimming hole. This made it difficult to truly enjoy swimming as you always had to keep an eye out for the snakes. Would have been very stressed if I had a small child or dog with me. Still a great hike with views of the waterfall and the creek running through the trail.
Great trail, pretty steep in some places if you’ve got bad knees or ankles. My dogs almost pulled me down the mountain! Went morning (10am) on a Saturday and only saw 3 people the whole way up and down. I was the only one at the falls for the 30-45 minutes I hung out there, it was pretty serene. The dogs loved playing in the water, but the wet rocks made it a little difficult for them so be prepared to assist in some places if you’re walking around. The way back up was a little tough, but thankfully the hike is short enough that you’re done before you have a chance to feel miserable about it. Overall, the various pools and falls were very much worth it, great short hike that can be combined with others in the area if you want to get in more miles.
6 miles of forest service rd, doable by car but probably won't like it. Parking for 8 cars or so. Trail well marked. Tree roots prominent on trail, watch your ankles. Hiking thru mtn laurel tunnel, shady. All downhill/uphill. Couple of fisherman followed me in, catch & release. A great swimming hole. Plenty of flat rocks to layout. Nice falls on feeder stream.
