Very picturesque in the winter with views of a lovely brook. Couldn't find parking at Davidson River Campground so parked across 276 about 100 feet up the road and got on the trail at the north end of the parking lot. Only thing we didn't like was having to walk right beside the highway for about 100 yards at the end.
Nice shady walk in the woods. We hiked it counter clockwise starting at trailhead just above Sycamore Flats picnic area. It was an uncrowded hike. Saw a few bikers and one other hiker. Most of climb was at the beginning and it wasn’t terribly difficult. This part of trail follows stream drainage for the most part. It should have some nice views in the winter since there is quite a bit of deciduous hardwood forest on the slopes. We picked this trail because other trails with waterfalls and / or scenic views would be a bit crowded since it’s Labor Day weekend.
You can catch the trailhead right across from the bridge over Davidson River
Parked at Davidson River CG. Short connection from flat Art Loeb cross 276 and do Sycamore loop. 4 miles moderate. Was after a day of heavy rain so muddy in spots and stream crossings were a little more adventurous. Good hike.
