One of the most adventurous hikes I've ever done! Plenty of scenery changes, the waterfalls are beautiful, traversing through creeks and muck were honestly a lot of fun, and the steep climb at wilderness falls at the end was a trip. Highly recommend, but make sure you wear waterproof boots and you're not afraid to get dirty!
It was a lovely trail. Only a few other people the whole time. Wilderness Fall was fantastic so be sure to add that on to this loop. Yes you will get wet feet.
the ONLY reason I give it 4 stars is due to difficulty and wetness in areas. not suitable for young kids or unfit elderly past certain points. bunch of scramblin' and so many sidetrails, swim holes, and camp spots you could spend all day exploring.. honestly one of the prettiest and most fun hikes I've done all year! esp with the leaves doin THAT THING.. ;D please don't pay attention to my recording I forgot to turn it off (again!) I've heard to watch for snakes and I can see why. lots of flat sunny rocky areas along the way. just keep your presence known! I took it counterclockwise (going down to wilderness falls 1st) and while it was steep, probably much easier to go down than to come up and also our timing allowed us to catch the sunset along the ridge coming back up panthertown after taking our time at all the falls and several points between. not crowded on a weekday
Easy trail, water was high enough that we needed to take our boots off to do one crossing, little muddy in spots but not too bad. Great views, beautiful falls and lots to see on a little short hike.
Did this trail loop on a beautiful Fall afternoon. The trails are well signed, some muddy spots, incredible scenery!!! The creeks and falls were great. Also, despite many cars in the parking lot, we only saw a few people and absolutely NO TRASH! Great job folks. Great place to hike
Great hike, granny Burrell is incredible to swim and hang on the flat rocks. I opted for the additional .8 of wilderness falls which has some steep terrain. The fall’s are steep and fantastic to look at.
Super fun and exciting. One downed tree on the trail but not too hard to navigate around. Very muddy on one half....... I gave up trying to keep my shoes dry and went barefoot
Did this trail 2 days ago with my dog & 75 yr old mother. We have done moderate hikes before without a problem but the upper portion of the Wilderness Falls trail was very steep, slick and muddy. We scrambled & made it through to complete the loop trail but I would not do that again with them. Have since discovered (on https://www.hikewnc.info/trails/panthertown-valley/wilderness-falls) that the Forest Service has advised against using this portion of the trail until a re-route is completed in July 2021. The pool at the bottom of Frolictown falls was a fun spot to take a break and rinse the mud off for everyone. We did encounter a copperhead on the trail without incident between Granny Burrell and Frolictown so just keep your eyes open.
One of my favorite trails I have ever been on. We went low and saw 3 waterfalls then cut back up. Only came up to 3.7 miles.
