Beautiful trail! A bit crowded on Sat mid-morning. I ran the trail twice in a loop. I wish that on E John St there would’ve been a sidewalk all the way to S Trade St. I did my long run (6mi) and on John St had to cross the street twice and waited a long time to do so safely. I realize is not a big deal, but would be nice to make it a smooth loop

This trail is good for biking, jogging or a nice walk. A lot of greenery. Some parts of the trail there’s not shade. There’s this park a some point of the trail where you can get inside and get muddy got the feeling of a mountain if you like.

Paved, very bike friendly. More people and noisy come midday but, still enjoyable. Shaded.

Great trail. My 4 kids, 2 dogs and myself enjoyed the trail very much. We loved the nice wide clean paved path. The creek was lovely. We spent hours walking from creek to path to creek playing. We will spend lots of time here this summer. Lots of people of all ages enjoying the trail.

Did 4 miles in and 4 miles out. It was fun and the scenery was amazing. Saw some bull frogs, turtles and a few other wild life’s that were amazing to see.

Located in the town of Matthews NC, this local greenway is a part of the Carolina Thread Trail that extends 15 counties throughout North and South Carolina. There is on-road parking on E. John but if you need off-street parking, you’ll have to park at Squirrel Lake Park on Pleasant Plains Road in Matthews. The trail begins with a boardwalk on E. John Street and continues SW through a dense wooded area. Your walk will trace Four Mile Creek for its duration, giving you the opportunity to view much of its wildlife habitat. Most of the trail is asphalt with several boardwalks throughout. As with many other greenways in the Charlotte and surrounding areas, this area is a Certified Wildlife Habitat. Its a nice quiet walk through several of Matthews connected communities, Greylock, Ashley Creek, and Matthews Estates just to name a few. About 1/2 mile into your walk you’ll have the option of entering Squirrel Lake Park, which has a 12 hole disc golf course and several other recreational opportunities. Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation measures its distance as 2.26 miles but I managed 3.5 from E John to S.Trade street. You will see many of the local residents getting their morning walks in as well as bikers any time of the day. There are a few benches along the trial so you can relax along the trail. Overall a great opportunity for outdoor recreation. Honorable mention goes to the local artists who have created the ‘Manhole Menagerie” along the trail … very inspiring ! Worth the trip, get out and explore … see you on the trail !!!

I did 2 miles of this trail with my dog. It’s mostly paved, but in some places sand/dirt have covered the trail. It’s shady and scenic, yet most of the trail is lined by houses on both sides. (So unfortunately you don’t get that “away from it all” feeling). We also saw some bikers and there is plenty of room for all. Would be great for kids, too.

Perfect for a pretty and easy walk near the bustle of the city. Pretty much all paved and civilized. Kids loved being able to play on the playground after our walk. Saw lots of dogs, kids on and off bikes and joggers.

Good to run! Lots of space.

Great place to socialize your dog! Lots of foot and bike traffic. I have a Great Dane and the boardwalk is wide enough for us to pass with plenty of room to spare:) Wildlife galore!! I would not recommend this trail for families with crazy toddlers (like mine:) The boardwalk does not have rails and only a 12" lip....3 ft drop to swamp below. Otherwise...great walking trail!!!

Great, mostly paved urban path that even has a destination & is not just a 'loop'. Watch out for skate boarders & bikers

Great, close path to bring the pups. Well maintained with a natural feel, though it's easy to get to and enjoy.
