Getting There

Park at Forest Ridge Park. Follow signs for the Mountain Biking trailhead to the rear of the park. Follow the 2 loops until reaching the trailhead.

This park just opened end September 2017. It boasts a great kids playground with even a kiddie zip line. There are 2 large picnic shelters. Hiking trails are limited, notably a short ~0.5 mile loop trail right by the entrance close to the welcome centre. There is also a multi-use out and back trail of 1.25 mile that heads to the end of the peninsula. The trail described here makes reference to the mountain biking loop which collectively make up 3.45 miles of trail. These bike trails are likely to be closed after wet weather.

Head down Old Hwy 98 (first right off Old Falls of Neuse Rd).

The trail is a good variation of narrow, short rapid hills and open paths with raised roots and rocks that will grab your peddles if you don’t plan ahead correctly. Majority of smooth/ clay, non pebble paths but have some tricky areas that require advanced skill level. If you are looking for a cardio test, I’d rate this one a 2 out of 5 but adding the second trail/ Peninsula Point at the entrance, to your ride, will test the legs as there are some good, long hills. Definitely a 5 out of 5 stars for the moderate level posted on the web, based on location if you live in Wake Forest or North Raleigh and really nice parking. Finally, the views of the lake are nice, with some areas that allow for broad, wide open views of Falls Lake. Jay Moore

Nice beginner mountain bike trail, only a few tough obstacles on the main loop - two rocky areas that may get your tire and one set of tight trees that may get your handlebars. Other than that it is a nice 3.5 mile ride through the woods with some views of the lake. Mud was not an issue. I suspect it can get really crowded on the weekends. Enjoy!

Great little MTB trail for a casual ride and riders of all levels. It rides really well, dirt is compacted so you can build some speed at times. There’s no challenging areas so you really can bring riders of any level. It rides both ways and is open to hiking so be mindful when riding here.

The Peninsula Trail is a 3-mile round trip out-and-back trail going from the Forest Ridge Welcome Center to the edge of the forest. It had rained pretty heavily the day before so the water was a little higher than expected, but the ground wasn't muddy and was easy to walk on. Not particularly steep or challenging, it's a pleasant, enjoyable walk.

First to Review

Despite it's short length this is a nice trail. You can tell that some thought was put into the design and development of it with the features that were built to preserve the trail. It's well packed clay like dirty with roots and rocks. There aren't many steep climbs and as a result the trail has a really nice flow to it. Gradual inclines and pump track like flats and declines. Because it can be ridden really fast you have to stay aware of oncoming traffic. As such, keeping your head on a swivel can be as mentally taxing as it is physical. There is one nice rock garden that last for about 100-150 feet with some alternative paths through it.
