Starting from the Boone Fork Parking area on the Blue Ridge Parkway at MM 300 at elevation of 3905 feet, take the trail to the left of the parking area, then left on the Tanawha trail for a walk over a high bridge and to the permit station. Take the Nuwati trail to the right for 0.6 mi, then turn left at the Cragway TH, which ends at the Daniel Boone Scout Trail.
My husband and I only had a few hours this morning but wanted to take advantage of the nice weather. We parked at the Boone Fork Parking Area, took the Daniel Boone Scout Trail to the lookout then took Cragway Trail to the Nuwati Trail and then back to parking. It was a nice hike and we took our two big dogs, who handled the trail well. Definitely a tougher trail with elevation but worth it. Nice views without a super long hike. It was very wet but it had also poured all day the day before.
the trail is 2.1 miles to flat rock view. makes for a 4.2 mile round trip hike.
Beautiful hike. Recommend going up Cragway and down Daniel Boone for the loop. We extended to Callaway peak. The last half mile was still snowy and icy especially by the ladders. Didn’t have much views on a foggy day but it was a blast.
Still good snow coverage and plenty of ice. We had crampons that were a savior. Loved the trail. Great overlooks and beautiful paths.
Did this hike today! There was light snow at the bottom and gradually got thicker. Getting to the trail was tricky. Take a left before going over the foot bridge. You’ll know you hit the trail when you see the registration booth. Mid day the snow melts and it can get muddy at times. Over all it was amazing!
Absolutely beautiful trail! Snowy and a bit icy so use lots of caution but overall a great and not too challenging for an experienced hiker :)
pretty trail with several beautiful overlooks, steep toward the end but worth the effort
Great views, went up the left side. A little wet coming down the right side. Missed peak foliage by a week.
Lots of slush/ ice past the first mile. Windy at the peak. Bring waterproof shoes or come in the dry season
