Nice and easy hike. The climb up involves lot of stairs. I did the hike right before a storm in the morning and watching rain clouds from the top was truly rewarding.

Starting from the base of the last set of Chimney Rock steps and just across from the Lake Lure Lookout platform, take the trail up the metal encased staircase and keep going up. Great view of Chimney Rock and Lake Lure in the background from the top of the stairs. After that and several sets of rock and deck steps come to an open bald called Exclamation Point. Awesome views! Good staircase workout. Take a picnic lunch and chill on the rock with a great view. I was disappointed that the trail I took many years ago to the top of Hickory Nut Falls was closed and I hope they open this back up.

Chimney Rock State Park is an excellent and well-maintained park. You will drive through the admissions gate and then all the way up to the foot of Chimney Rock. Park by Cliff Dwellers, the gift shop, and walk along the boardwalk past Gneiss Cave to the rigid steel stairs. Sets of stairs will take you up to Opera Box, Devil's Head, Chimney Rock (flag pole), and then all the way up to Exclamation Point where part of "The Last of the Mohicans" was filmed. There is a live webcam pointing down at Chimney Rock. Watch it at: http://www.chimneyrockpark.com/live-webcam/ Once you're done here, walk down the hill slightly to the Hickory Run trail, which is spectacular, especially after it rains.

Best trail of the busy Chimney Rock State Park Trails. The least busy and a nice place to rest and enjoy the gorgeous view at the top.
