Not much of a trail, all man-made stairs. Beautiful view at the top, though.

This short hike which is mostly comprised of stairs will take you to the top of the Chimney rock. Best views though can be seen from the Opera box and the Devil’s Head which are only a few extra stairs away. As of May 2018, the elevator is still out of order.

A. This is after you’ve hiked to Chimney rock. Not vice versa.
B. It’s not a hike. It’s 99.99% stairs with maybe 50’ in total of dirt.
C. View is beautiful.
D. DO NOT ATTEMPT IF OUT OF SHAPE OR AFRAID OF HEIGHTS.
E. Elevator still broken.

Took my husband and 3 dogs. The "hike" was almost entirely stairs (not a real hike to me). You're basically trapped on the stairs and it's pretty heavily trafficked. The view was cool. Overall a nice experience, but I wouldn't do it more than once.

Great view. Heavily trafficked.

Only way to get to Chimney Rock right now because the elevator is closed. 0.6 miles, almost 1000 stairs, and every bit as hard as it sounds. Still very popular: lots of families and tourists come here. Beware the $15 entrance fee. Many viewpoints near the top, and all of the views are fantastic. Worthwhile if you are physically able to make the climb.

Closed. Frustrating to pay to enter the park and have half the trails, bathrooms, elevator and places to eat closed. Dont go in winter. . .

Fun trail, well traveled with exceptional views. The stairs are all the work. Once you get to exclamation point it’s easy sailing to the top of the falls. The view of the falls is limited because you can only get but so close. It’s a great workout climbing those stairs so I will definitely be doing this one again, but I’m not sure if I’ll bother walking to the top of the falls next time.

Heavily trafficked, but awesome if you can stand being stuck behind a lot of people. The views were amazing!

Nice and easy hike. The climb up involves lot of stairs. I did the hike right before a storm in the morning and watching rain clouds from the top was truly rewarding.

Nice views. Lots of stairs but besides that the trail isn't bad.

This place was beautiful!! I am truly thankful I was able to make it to the top!! It was quite a difficult task due to nothing but stairs however there were plenty of places to stop and rest and also other people to help encourage you. I made it all the way up to exclamation point and it was WELL WORTH IT!!

Starting from the base of the last set of Chimney Rock steps and just across from the Lake Lure Lookout platform, take the trail up the metal encased staircase and keep going up. Great view of Chimney Rock and Lake Lure in the background from the top of the stairs. After that and several sets of rock and deck steps come to an open bald called Exclamation Point. Awesome views! Good staircase workout. Take a picnic lunch and chill on the rock with a great view. I was disappointed that the trail I took many years ago to the top of Hickory Nut Falls was closed and I hope they open this back up.

Chimney Rock State Park is a great place to explore nooks and crannies with great views. From the very start, you enter the world of stair-climbing. Visit places like the Grotto, the Subway [tight tunnel under the rock], Pulpit Rock [make a speech or deliver a sermon!], Vista Rock [see where you parked], Devil's Head, the Opera Box, Chimney Rock, the Sky Lounge and Exclamation Point. Take your time and stop to enjoy the views unless you want to get in a good cardio leg busting workout - if so, don't stop all the way to the top! Great views and although the entrance fee is a bit expensive, $13, they keep the steps safe and even have an elevator to the Sky Lounge for those wanting to take a short cut [this is currently closed for repairs].

The views are amazing, so worth all the stairs up.

Chimney Rock State Park is an excellent and well-maintained park. You will drive through the admissions gate and then all the way up to the foot of Chimney Rock. Park by Cliff Dwellers, the gift shop, and walk along the boardwalk past Gneiss Cave to the rigid steel stairs. Sets of stairs will take you up to Opera Box, Devil's Head, Chimney Rock (flag pole), and then all the way up to Exclamation Point where part of "The Last of the Mohicans" was filmed. There is a live webcam pointing down at Chimney Rock. Watch it at: http://www.chimneyrockpark.com/live-webcam/ Once you're done here, walk down the hill slightly to the Hickory Run trail, which is spectacular, especially after it rains.

Best trail of the busy Chimney Rock State Park Trails. The least busy and a nice place to rest and enjoy the gorgeous view at the top.

We thoroughly enjoyed the view and the chance to leave the crowd behind and travel up to the top of Chimney Rock and Exclamation Point.
