Trail was opened just ahead of us. They did a great job. We also got lucky when they showed us the rock! It is very hard to find. It is approximately 75 yards down river from camp site. It is basically IN the river. You have to climb down a steep trail that’s only 20’ and then turn around and look back against bank to find carvings. Awesome hike but will give you a workout on way back!

Great hike. Lots of debris and down trees along the trail which added a whole extra level of difficulty with dogs. Sandy beach are at the bottom was nice, and we are tempted to try an overnight camping trip. We couldn’t find Ellicott Rock.

Great trail! I can see this being crazy busy when warmer. If your using the book written by Tim Homan the trail is called Bad Creek Trail.

Few down trees to slide over, under and between but a nice walk.

we did a overnight backpacking hike on this trail. there were a high number of down trees on the trail so there was obstacles while hiking. the end of the trail was at the river and we were able to set up camp there and there was an area for a fire pit and a log to sit on. We did not see any other hikers on this trail except on the opposite side of the river. Pretty hike but strenuous at the end and coming back.

First to Review

We hiked this on January 10, 2018 and saw no other hikers. The sign for Bullpen road is missing at 107, look for a road marked 1100. The forest itself is the real payoff on this trail. We had a nice picnic by the river. I couldn’t find Ellicott’s rock. There are a lot of trees down, many from recent storms. The trail is passable but there are a lot of obstacles. It was rainy and cloudy so views were limited.
