Duke Wall is a 1.9 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Durham, North Carolina that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for walking, trail running, and birding and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
It's an OK go-to trail for running if you live in the neighborhood, but it has gotten a lot more crowded since the pandemic. People are lax about wearing a mask, even though there are signs everywhere claiming they are required. I fault Duke for having conflicting messages about this on their website. If you are a runner and tired of dodging huge packs of walkers or dogs on retractable leashes, there are much better options: Duke Forest, American Tobacco Trail, the Eno trails, and several land conservancy trails, just to name a few.
Big, beautiful squared green space with Duke Unv. buildings centrally located and lots of trees which we are walking under in the mid morning dew bc the perimeter walled path, although wide and nicely kept with fine gravel, is for the most part, not shaded and is too hot for my doggo in this summer heat. Only a few gnats under trees, no mosquitos, so we are super happy!
During summer less crowded because school is out. Nice trail!
Great place for jog or casual walk. Trail access located right across from Whole Foods and it's a perfect place to get some exercise on your lunch break. Can get somewhat crowded but people are always friendly and you should always feel safe here. Only downside is the trail is not paved but rather dirt/gravel. Also they are currently building what seems to be a new sports facility within the loop which occupies a huge space and takes away from the aesthetics
