Dry Falls Trail is a 0.3 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Highlands, North Carolina that features a waterfall and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for walking, nature trips, and bird watching and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
This trail goes behind a waterfall. You will get wet.
Don’t let the name fool you. We did this short easy walk a day after it snowed and the forest below looked amazing. You’re sure to get a light mist if you walk behind the waterfall. Great view!
Trail was spectacular! Steps leading down to the fall were well maintained and built for public use, unlike some other nearby falls. The experience was unique because you can walk behind the fall. It is definitely not dry as there is a lot of mist coming off the rocks. Definitely go see it because it is just off the main road and not a far walk.
One of my favorite little hikes I’ve done! Thanks to my air bnb neighbor who recommended this to us on our trip to NC. Parking lot was half way full on a weekday when we went, can only imagine it being really packed on a weekend. Wonderful opportunity of a lifetime to ever walk behind a waterfall. Lots of good photo opportunities as well for the social media lovers out there. There is a $3 parking fee that you’ll have to pay via website that you could do from your phone and most people don’t realize it, but it’s to help maintain and upkeep the area.
