Went here right after Christmas of 2017. Falls was half way frozen with massive icicles! Short “hike” but one of the best waterfalls around the area. Kids 7 & 4 absolutely loved this one.

What a gorgeous waterfall where you can walk behind it and get cooled off. Easy stair walkway and easy access from paved parking lot. Such a great area, very green and lush surroundings. This would be a beautiful place to get married too!

Recent monsoons have made the flow twice the normal flow!

If you are in the area, this is a must stop! There are steps down to the falls but it is so worth it. My 8 year old loved it and said it was his favorite of all the falls we have visited. Being able to walk behind it, is definitely fun. The recent rains made it very full and beautiful. I’m sure it’s that way even without the rain and would highly recommend this stop.

Hardly any walk, well defined, and beautiful scenery!

Dry Falls is located along SR-64 / Highland Road just NW of Highlands, NC. I was VERY impressed by this trail. there was ample paved parking, facilities, a cement trail with guardrails down to and behind the falls, an amazingly pretty waterfall, and no admission. From car to falls is about 10 minutes and the views along the trail of the falls are breathtaking. I went just after a rain so the falls had more flow but I suspect that this waterfall is beautiful year 'round.

We visited with 2.5 and 3.5 year old boys, who loved being able to walk behind the falls. Beautiful and easy. Definitely not a “hike” but a lovely outing.

See Andrew Coorr and Vicki Shepard reviews. Good for what it is. Expect heavy traffic given ease of access.

Perfect for what it is. A short jaunt off the side of the road. You might get a little wet if you go behind the falls. My 4 year old made it on the climb back up.

This is a very short trail that is more of a scenic overlook type setting than an actual hike. I walked it in flip flops. You’ll park right off the road where there are small restroom facilities in the parking lot. You can go to an overlook of the falls, or you can take the steps and path all the way down and behind the falls. We visited on July 4th and it was crowded, but totally worth sharing the space and getting some really beautiful shots from behind the falls.
Highly recommend this if you’re close to Highlands. If you’re coming from downtown Highlands, you’ll also pass Bridal Veil Falls, which you can see clearly without even getting out of your car. :)

Beautiful waterfall! One of our favorites. We stop in every time we’re in Highlands. We went again today and the water was crazy. It’s been raining for days so it was really pumping.

Best kind of pull off attraction to see. You will have to go down a few stairs to get to the falls. It had been raining a lot so I think the falls were a bit bigger than normal. If they were is big as they were when I was there you WILL get wet going underneath them. Very Cool!

This is the perfect little path for older visitors and very little ones who can’t do a hike and but want to see one of our waterfalls up close and walk behind it. We come a few times a year to check it out and show our visiting friends and family.

The path to Dry Falls is a walk with a handrail along well constructed wooden stairs and rocks. I wouldn’t consider it a hike. Dry Falls is a wonderful spot for first time visitors to the area though I often return every year for the beautiful scenery and sounds of rushing waters, especially in the springtime when the water falling is heaviest. Kids of all ages enjoy walking into the mist behind Dry Falls which hopefully you figured out is not dry.
