This is a trail within Dan Nicholas park in Rowan County, NC. The park is open 7 days a week, although non-camping visitor hours vary by season as to the availability of the attractions such as miniature golf, a zoo, paddle boats, and kiddie rides. It is usually open at the least from 8am-5pm during it's shortest hours. There is a parking lot near the lake and although the loop around the lake isn't technically part of the official trail, it is easy to add it to the route. There are about 10 bridges to cross during the trail and there is some moderate inclines although they are not long in length.

As the other reviews state, once you get on the trail you have it to yourself. We went in the morning and our shoes got wet walking on the grass to the beginning of the trail. Take a hat if you don’t like spiderwebs. Being alone on a trail in the morning means you clear out the spiderwebs for others. We probably walked thru about 15 spiderwebs. There are a few overgrown areas but once you get on the trail, it is easy to follow. Definitely take time to walk around the lake and enjoy the ducks and turtles.

Simple, short and peaceful loop. A couple little knotty uphills otherwise nothing demanding here. Just a good ol’ walk in the park.

Nice easy close to home trail . A surreal experience seeing the park so abandoned. normally bustling now just a couple fishermen and a couple walkers . Once you hit the loop trail you have it to yourself . short but sweet .

This is an easy loop. Park at lot closest to the lake. I went today, 4th of July, it was hot and humud. Hardly anyone at the park given the heat and all the facilties being closed. The hike/walk starts around the lake and veers into the woods, returning to the lake. Few ups and downs, mostly easy. Well marked, very pleasant.

HikingGreat!

I started in the wrong parking lot. I should have gone a little farther closer to the lake and started, but it wasn't too far off. Enjoyed the hike that branched off from the dam, crossed the meadow, and started at the arrow sign the most. The geese and ducks were welcoming! I'll have a video of my hike here soon to see. OH! There was not ONE person on the trail. Amazing for this park. My video of the trail: https://youtu.be/SAefGyVNK7Q

Great trail, marked fairly well. If you go counter-clockwise, turn right after going down the stairs to get to where you can cross the stream.

I noticed many reviewed it easy or very easy. Apparently they did not venture on the Persimmon Branch Trail, which veers off the lake loop at the dam. From the time you leave the dam until you return, it is about 1.5 miles. It is not wheelchair or stroller accessible as there are some 30 landscape timber steps up a rather steep incline. But it is very beautiful in the fall with lots of color. There is also another trail off Campground Rd., just under 1.5 miles called the Volkssport Trail. This I would rate fairly easy. The high school Xcountry teams run meets here.

The trails are mainly small loops, not even .5 mile long. The cave was nice.

Easy trail, well marked, the lake portion had lots of people, the rest had only myself and 2 other hikers. Lots of shade, must be very pretty in the autumn. About 1/5th of the trail is close to the road and you hear the cars; the rest is very quite

at first I only noticed the trail around the small lake/pond. Off to the side thru the meadow is the other trail thru the trees. I wouldn’t say this is stroller friendly unless you’re a daring solider ( I took my stroller and was a bumpy ride for my little one). Trail was decently marked and path you was lightly trafficked.

great trail for just hiking through woods. there's a short part that's a loop around the park pond. it's on the moderate side of easy. has some up and downs but nothing bad.

lovely easy walk around a lake. it can be a little muddy at times, but its a neat trail. doesn't take too long to walk even with kids and a slight disability. its not very flat though, watch your footing.

I love this trail. Unlike those you may find at other nearby parks this one isn't paved, or gravel covered, so you'll experience uneven terrain, tree roots, etc. However, for the most part the path is cleared of debris. Depending on the season, in the late evening, you get the added bonus of seeing an abundance of mallards and geese resting near the lakes edge as they settle in for the night, along with plenty of squirrels running about. Additionally, the park is pretty far away from the main road so you don't have to deal with hearing traffic. Overall, a great little spot.

Very easy walking trail. Not too exciting to hike. I want to go back to putt putt and paddle boat but that is about it.

This is my go-to trail for my usual exercise. Has cool bridges and a nice lake to walk around. I run across other hikers from time to time, but not as much as I would expect form this park. Perhaps it is more well traveled during the summer. The trail is well marked with blue numbered blazes.
