Craggy Pinnacle Trail is one of the most beautiful trails to hike on the Blue Ridge Parkway when the Rhododendrons are blooming forming a canopy of magenta and purple color against the greenery and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Your trail hike starts in the parking lot. Then continue to the upper parking lot where you will see the parkway sign "Craggy Dome" the trail head is just on the other side indicated by a sign. The first part of the trail is covered by color as the plants create a canopy in which you walk under on the trail. The first part of the journey is a gradual climb; then you reach a bend and a nice elevated rock with a view. The trail then leans more upward until it reaches a fork to the right where there is a plateau and many scenic overlooks. As you loop back around the trail with a sign states left to the upper lookout and right to the lower lookout. The lower lookout just allows you to see the visitor center and the mountains in the distance about a 180 degree view. If you want to feel like you are on top of the world take the upper lookout trail until you reach the rock wall with stairs. As you emerge from the stairs you will see a 360 degree lookout with a beautiful scenic landscape of the Blue Ridge mountains, the Asheville watershed lake, and more. What goes up must come down as the walk down the mountain trail is a lot more easier than going up.

Great short hike to the summit from the parking area. You ascend around 400ft over 3/4 mile so not to bad. The trail is dirt and rocks. Great views at the top.

Nice short hike, it took maybe 10 minutes to get to the viewpoint. If you’re able to get up there on a less cloudy evening for sunset, it’s an incredible view!

NOT ticks! Don't worry! They're weevils.

Great short hike with spectacular 360o view! Only 0.4 miles up (the trail sign said 0.7 miles, but my GPS only measured 0.4mi). Wildflowers on trail. I went on a Tuesday late afternoon, and it was only lightly trafficked.

Such a short hike with such a big payoff! I know one reviewer said that they had been swarmed by ticks the other day, but I was just up there today and the little black bugs that were up there were NOT ticks, they were weevils!! It’s gorgeous, best around sunset if you can!

Beautiful trail but when we got to the top we were swarmed by ticks. Not just a few. Each of us were covered with 20 to 30. What was weird was that it was at the rocky part at the top. People were running down screaming. Weirdest thing ever.

Gorgeous 360° views. You can get the most amazing panoramic shots. Very mild and brief hike.

Watch out for ticks! Went up July 4th around 7 PM.

Uphill all the way headed to the pinnacle (all downhill coming back) with several spurs - takes about 30 minutes altogether. Highly recommend.

Very nice hike and perfect weather. This isn't a difficult trail and it has 360 degree views. You can see to the Black Mountains, Grandfather Mountain, and all kinds of views. The climb is a little rocky but very manageable for most people and kids.

i spent 2 month hiking spet and oct 2017 and seeing sites on and all round the skline and parkway and through 6 southern states and this little trail gives you some on the most incredible views i had seen during my trip. i know some people need to hike miles and miles to be satisfied but they won't see views like this. if you are anywhere near here (even if you have to drive a few hours) i promise you won't be sorry.

Stunning Views from the top!

Craggy Pinnacle offers some wonderful 360 degree views from atop the lookout. As it is a shorter hike many people from out of town like to stop in while driving along the blue ridge highway. If it is windy, or the weather isn’t looking nice, keep in mind there is little protection. I live close to Douglas Falls so I actually hike from the Barnardsville side at Douglas Falls and cut through to the pinnacle trail. If you have the time hike down to the Falls!!

I have hiked this trail many times and during different seasons. It is especially beautiful when the rhododendrons are in bloom.

You feel like you're in an enchanted forest! This is a short .7 mile out and back trail, it's easy for all levels. There were a lot of bumble bees since there's lots of flowers, so if you don't like bees then this may not be for you.
