Great summer time route. Take Cole Mill and cross the Eno River over to Laurel Bluffs. Follow Laurel over to the Cabe Lands loop and around to the Quarry. Eat lunch and soak up some sun at the Quarry then make your way back, taking the other sides of the trails than when you came.
Park at Bobbit Hole Parking: From I-85, take exit 173 onto Cole Mill Rd, then a left onto Old Cole Mill Rd. Old Cole Mill ends at the parking lot.
Couldn’t cross river to get to back half of trail loop. Did first loop twice
Great option for a pretty easy, longer morning hike while social distancing. Be prepared to get your feet wet crossing through the river near Bobbit’s Hole. There was plenty of parking when we got there at 9 and the trail was practically empty after crossing the river. On the way back at around 12, Bobbit’s hole was packed and parking was filling up.
Parking lot was filling up when we arrived at 10 am, and they were turning people away from the lot when we left at 1. A very nice hike, it was nice hiking by the eno, the crossing was fun and the trail was deserted as soon as crossed the eno. The quarry is closed for “Picnicking, loitering and swimming” so we simply walked around it and made our way back. Would definitely recommend this hike!
I had a great time on this trail! I brought my dog and she had a great time along the trail. She especially loved when we go to Bobbit Hole and she was able to go swimming for bit. My complaint about this trail is whoever recorded/mapped out this route crossed the river at Bobbit Hole. If you look at the course of the trail, it makes a cut across the river. For me I was unable to do that with my dog and I didn’t have waterproof shoes. For this reason I was only able to do 2.5 miles of the the total 6 miles which was a complete bummer. I wish those who map trails will make it feasible for everyone to do it.
Great hike along the river and then up into the hills and then ends back down at the river
