Great trail, especially once you get down to the river. We kept hiking after the bridge and it was really nice. The water is super clear and you can see it from the trail. Would highly recommend this trail. It is all uphill the whole way back so be prepared for that but it isn't too bad.

HikingGreat!

Nicely marked trail. At the parking area you will see a dirt mound. Go to the left and you will see the trail marker. Definitely easy on the way down but moderate on the way up. Great view of the falls and steel bridge at the end.

HikingGreat!Muddy

Loved this trail. The falls and bridge at the end were wonderful, and you definitely want to bring a swimsuit and snack. Dogs loved splashing around and running on the sand. Bring your uphill legs for the trek back.

Great hike. I am 46 and in relatively good shape and I would not call it easy. My heart rate was at 170 on the uphill way back for a good 20 minutes. My hyper 5 year old son didn’t have any problems. My 7 year old daughter was cooked with about 5 minutes left back to the car. The trail is fairly well maintained with some overgrowth in the last stretch before reaching the river. The river and mini water fall at the end is worth the effort. We were accosted by horse flies at the river, not sure if that is normal this time of year. There was a dead buck on the side of the river, just downriver. Wondering what if the flies were heavier because they were feasting on him. All in all, it was a nice hike that we would do again.

First to Review

This is a relatively easy trail with some downhill to the Chattooga River and of course uphill back to the car. There were a few logs to climb over. Nothing difficult. Winter views of Whiteside Mountain thru the trees. Many pine needles and dead leaves on the trail. We saw rhododendron, mountain Laurel, pine trees and deciduous trees. At the bottom of the long hill, the trail intersects with the Chattooga River Trail. Today there was flagging here. Make note of this spot, so you may return to your parked car. This spot is south of the Whiteside Cove Road trailhead and north of the Iron Bridge trailhead on Bull Pen Road. This is the easiest access to the Narrows of the Chattooga River. From this intersection turn left/north. The trail goes along the Chattooga River. Cross a bridge with a pretty waterfall on the left and the Narrows on the right. This is your destination. The Narrows has a sandy beach and almost flat rocks to sit on. Lovely lunch spot. Also great in the summer to soak your feet or swim a bit. Pretty little waterfall on Creek that flows into the Chattooga. See photo. To access trailhead, from the intersection of US64 and Hwy 107 in Cashiers, go south on Hwy 107 toward South Carolina and Walhalla. Turn right/west on Whiteside Cove Road. Road is very windy and pretty. Pass gorgeous view of Whiteside Mountain. Road becomes gravel. Continue to the Jackson/Macon County line where the road becomes paved. Park here on left/south side of the road.
