Trail is open to hiking, running and mountain biking. Bikes travel in the opposite direction. This is a beautiful forested trip with occasional views of Lake Lure and Youngs Mountain. Views are better in the winter. There is a challenging climb in either direction on the loop. The extension goes west from near the high point of the loop. Trail has banked curves for bikers. Parking is limited at this point with enough room for 6-8 cars. The Town of Lake Lure is working on additional parking.

This was a great trail for the kids and the dog to get out on! It's designed for mountain biking though so it's very loopy and up hill. Then switches and is loopy and downhill. Overall though we liked it and it was a great workout!

Took my two dogs we are beginners at hiking, this trail was great, clearly marked, paths were nice. It was a good work out for us. Will be back.

This trail was great for our adventurous family. Our 3 kids really love hiking. The 5 mile loop took us about 2 hours. The trail was well kept and had some great views since it was winter. I can't imagine seeing much in the summer, though, when everything is leafed out. Because it doubles as a biking trail, there were a lot of overlapping curves. So it could be done quicker if you cut across.

The trail was great! It was a little wet though. It was fun and very kid appropriate. There were lots of dogs and not everyone likes dogs just keep that in mind. I would do it again!!!

Two big yellow jacket nests in holes on last mile of trail, or first mile if you go left first. Both are in holes just off trail, on left side (as we traveled right around the loop). 15+ stings total in our group of 4 and 3 dogs, and they chased us for quite a ways.

lots of shade covering this well maintained trail. early August, after 9 am start so got a little humid, but there were several small streams crossing trail allowing to wet my bandanna and cool off.

Fun, short mountain bike loop that changes direction daily. I rode it 2 consecutive days and enjoyed the trail both days-but for different reasons. Riding counterclockwise, you quickly get to the top thru a long series of switchbacks and berms. After that, the trail is flowy and fast with a few climbs thrown in to keep you honest. Clockwise, the trail is an enjoyable flowy trek to the top with a speedy descent thru high bermed switchbacks. Well worth it in either direction!

Nice loop for exercise and a walk in the woods. The trail is also used for mountain biking, and there are signs directing walkers and bikers to hike in specific directions on the loop.

Cons: Ugly. Definitely designed for mountain biking, but full of red mud and lacking in anything resembling scenery. Pros: Beautifully maintained, trail markers every .5 miles, very nice clockwise/counterclockwise system.
