Steep and rocky trail right out of the gate. Up 2 miles, continue right to BlackRock at the intersection. trail levels out for 1.3 miles then turns hard left and up. .6 miles with arround 700 ft elevation gain. Summit is past large rocks. Climb up rock outcropping for view. In late spring to early winter, I recommend long pants. The trail can be overgrown above 2 miles in. Make sure you have the right shoes for this hike. Coming down will test the fit.

Very strenuous hike. Lots of trees down due to recent snow. I took our two dogs who are great on the trails. Fantastic views at Blackrock though unfortunately I skipped the Pinnacle offshoot because I was afraid of running out of daylight. I think this hike would be too hot in summer. If I try it again would aim for the fall when leaves have changed colors.

Great hike, also makes a good through hike starting at Fisher Creek parking area. Convenient if someone with your group doesn’t want to do the whole stretch of the hike which entails considerable accumulated elevation gain of 4650 ft they can drop you off at this trailhead and drive to Waterrock Knob parking area. From there a very nice trail leads to Blackrock in less than 3 miles for a scenic meeting point.

Fantastic views along this trail including 360 views from Blackrock and The Pinnacle. Some tough technical spots. Wear pants many areas with high grass. Took us just over six hours with 15 minutes at Blackrock and 20 minutes at Pinnacle. Be ready to climb on the way back!

This is quite an adventurous day hike if you can do it. You might be tired, but you won't be sorry. These are two great overlooks. The trail is challenging without being dangerous. Go in June to see the mountain laurel in bloom.
