Big Butt Peak, Cattail Peak, Mount Mitchell and Gibbs Mountain is a 38.6 kilometer moderately trafficked point-to-point trail located near Burnsville, North Carolina that features beautiful wild flowers and is only recommended for very experienced adventurers. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

This hike is 24 miles of 6000' foot or greater peaks....the best high peaks NC has to offer, including the famed Mt. Mitchel. Buckle up, because this point to point route will require some serious leg muscles.

Only went to Cattail with a late start on a Sunday. Great vistas and views both to the north and the south. Rugged, steep in some areas to the point of anchored ropes to help out the less balanced. Definitely worth it. Weather can change dramatically on a dime, so be prepared.

Tough in some parts but that could have been due to ice covering everything. The snow and ice made it beautiful though.
