Heintooga Ridge Road, which you must drive to reach the trailhead, is closed in winter, typically from early November until mid-May. Most people who hike the trail are campers. Great hike for kids.
I would do it again, but not worth it to go out of your way for.
We arrived later than planned at Balsam Mountain Campground and wanted to take a quick walk after we set up our camp. Nature trail was convenient t because it started in the campground. We only took first mile. Once we got to the road we headed back to camp. Nothing spectacular to see, but was a nice way to stretch our legs.
