I just did the MST portion out and back but it was beautiful. I’m usually a skeptic of trails that use roads and flatter trails but there was enough uphill for exercise, great winter views, and a lovely winter. There is parking on the trail side but it’s hard to see — it looks like a gravel driveway. Crossing the highway from the other lot is pretty scary. Dog loved this hike too.

Relatively easy trail, although there is a good section that goes uphill for a while. We only saw one person, who told us he was hunting bears...The hike is simple but does offer some pretty, open fields and a beautiful ending at the river. This is the perfect hike if you want a longer but not steep elevation hike. It took us about 3.25 hours with lunch break.

HikingGreat!Muddy

We were looking to hike a good distance but with not too too much elevation gain. This trail hit the spot! Only ran into 2 other groups the whole 8 miles. Loved the MTS sections. We ended up doing the loop "backwards", opposite of what AllTrails shows. Would recommend!

Just a walk in the woods. Reward at the pedestrian bridge with a lovely view and a couple of spots to dip in. I will not revisit this trail, it simply wasn’t rewarding enough; however, made for a good training hike.

HikingOver grown

Went in thru forest up to the pedestrian bridge crossing north fork Catawba. Left to hike back about 15 minutes before train came thru which bummed me out..would have liked to see a train that close. Went back down using service road (which was sooooo overgrown) and agree w/prior poster...not too much shade in the summer. Not a lot of water to play in which is one of the main reasons I hike.

A pleasant hike. Nothing too spectacular. But a nice figure 8, 8 mile loop. Nice to end down by the river for lunch. Couple things though if you park at the main area you have to run across a 5 Lane Highway, be careful with kids. There is a place to park where the trail starts, there’s spots for about four cars. The other thing is, On the way back you spend a majority of the time, if not all the time on a logging road which is exposed to the sun and in the summer can be scorchingly hot.

This is a great trail for a straightforward hike or trail run, as it is wide, easy to follow and has enough variety to keep it interesting. Running along parts of the Mountains-to-Sea trail, there are some narrower/winding options if you’re looking for something more technical. There are some limited views and I’m sure you can find more if you do some of the offshoot trails. I crossed the bridge over the Catawba and the railroad tracks just to see what was there. Will explore further when time allows. This is great due to its convenience, while not being over-crowded. I’m probably ruining that by posting this glowing review.

This is a great walk in the woods with a wide path which is likely a service road or was a service road. It is gravel and dirt. You can stay on the road all the way or follow the loops. One of the loops is a small section on the mountain-to-sea trail. If you take the outer loop back, you only have a short walk on 221 back to your vehicle but have plenty of room on the grass to stay safe. I recommend this trail for those who want a good work out and don't mind being surrounded by woods. I parked right at the entrance on 221 rather than parking across the street at the Pisgah picnic area. There is a barricade to keep vehicles out but there are parking spots. It was great for my dog as well.

Just enough Mountains-to-Sea to keep it interesting and with some pretty views with the leaves off the trees. The forest road return was rolling and nice as well, but there is horse traffic on that part of the trail. Started on the MST and finished via the road...I parked at the start, but suggest parking at the end instead...there’s a small walk down 221 to connect the two. Pretty lichens!

Nice trail. Good cardio with gentle climbs that keep your heart rate up. Great view of the Catawba river at the end. Best marked trail to date. No problem keeping track.
