Auger Hole Trail, Foothills Trail, and Canebrake Trail Loop is a 16.2 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Lake Toxaway, North Carolina that features a river and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking, bird watching, and backpacking and is accessible year-round.
The Foothills Trail portion of this loop was the only enjoyable part. Gorgeous trail through the undergrowth complete with mossy grottos to soak your toes and enough terrain changes to keep us interested. The other two trails were literally single lane gravel roads that were straight incline most of the way. We would go back for the Foothills Trail but the other two no thanks.
Gate was closed at the NC/SC boarder. We drove to the gate from the Musterground Rd side and the Auger Hole side. No excuse for this gate to be closed. Overall it’s a great trail if you can ride all the way through.
