This is a beautiful section of the art loeb and you get a couple glimpses of the views yet to come. Pretty much all up and all down on the out and back. Of course, the best views are just above where this trail segment ends and I would highly suggest making the climb above the blue ridge (a totally unique and special section of the art loeb) and heading in either direction on MST. This will afford you some spectacular views. If you take a right at the top you can go over to devils courthouse. If you take a left you can get views before MST leaves the ridge line. I would also suggest adding in a loop up to the knobs while you’re at it. The views from black balsam and the others are wonderful. I added a loop that included little Sam and ivestor gap with a return on art loeb. This circuit added just under 10 miles and was great. As for the return, you can either come down the way you came or take farlow gap to Daniel ridge and hike back up 475. My app crapped out at about mile 19 but I estimate the whole loop to be about 24 miles. Nice day hike or break it into segments. Enjoy!
