Great hike. Mostly wooded. The first bald is beautiful
First bald is about 2 miles from the little parking lot off the road. Went in late December and the trail was fully open and accessible. It's good for a short day hike, I would rate it as moderate up to that point. The view from the first field is quite amazing, and looks like a good place to camp to watch the sunrise! Didn't see the second bald, but I will try that next time!
This is a nice trail. Most of it is wooded. The views from the balds are great.
Great hike. Camped on top of the bald for an incredible sunrise.
Hiked to big bald and it was challenging but very worth it! 2 miles in is the first opening to see the mountain views. Big bald is 6.5 miles from the start. Well worth it. Took about 6 hours to hike in and back out.
Great hike, completed it in 5-6 hours. Awesome views of big bald halfway through. Can be strenuous at times but its fairly even up hill/down hill. High rocks is a great site to see to close to spivy gap.
Awesome trail with great views, but also pretty challenging. Lots of elevation changes, but the views are well worth the effort. I highly recommend camping at the top of Big Bald Mountain, especially if it is a clear night.
