Getting There

A great loop trail maintained by the WFRA volunteers for winter activities. It is usually groomed and often set with a single ski track for most of the length of the loop described here. Many shortcuts are possible. There are additional back country trails just to the west of this loop and a couple of other spurs. The forest can be used in the summer for walking and biking, but the real attraction is the groomed trail in winter.

There are two outhouses at the Wart Rd parking lot. Sometimes the snow gets plowed right up to the door so you can't use them.

Access is easiest via I-81, Sandy Creek exit (37) and then taking Center Rd into Boylston and the large parking area on the left side of the road.

Went in the winter with my dogs, good snowshoe trail. Had the dogs, but there were several hunters in the woods along the trail

Took Billy's Belly to Shady Shuttle and walked back along Wart Road. Parking was easy to find and it was a nice 4.5 mile walk on firm, groomed trails. Highlight was seeing a red fox! Lots of intersecting trails makes for many different combinations, will be returning.

The trail was nice nothing really to see. It just felt like I was walking a gravel road not a trail. But well maintained. It was a 14 miles not 12.5 miles like it said. but will come back in the winter.

12/30/18, 28 degrees with light snow in the air. I simply hiked the Bill’s Belly Trail from Wart Road to Wart Road with a short detour up Shady Shuttle with hiking boots and a 30 lbs backpack for my “recovery” day. Six miles in two hours flat. A very easy hike with only two people on fat-tire bike. Peaceful and enjoyable.
