This has been a “go-to” for me for a few years when I crave a beautiful, fairly easy walk. It includes scenic views of the Hudson River, rolling hills and greenery. I try to go a few times a month.

beautiful, easy hike with great views of the Hudson. Make sure to find your way to the paved road and head down to the river's edge.

Easy gravel-paved walk through the woods and grounds of the mansion. Well-maintained open lawns perfect for picnics. Stunning views, not that crowded. Good for small children and families.

Not too many people on the property or the trail. Easy to find, not a very tough loop, the way down and up is not very steep. Amazing views of the river, would definitely come back again.

A beautiful afternoon walk. Not a lot of people. A little muddy in spots along the river. Took some beautiful pictures.

A nice afternoon walk. The gates are closed but the grounds remain open to foot traffic. Sparsely anyone there. Took some nice pictures.

Running

This is my regular running loop. It offers just enough—uphill, downhill, all on a smooth surface. And wonderful scenery.

A nice afternoon. Lots of people up by the mansion but fewer as you take the trail down to the river. A great place to watch the sunset! The mansion is also cool and has a lovely garden.

Quite a nice walk. Gets very busy on the weekends (with nice weather). I usually go on weekdays to avoid the crowds.

I'm not sure if my run was the Vanderbilt trail, but I think it was. The run was easy and relatively quiet. I left from the Roosevelt property and followed the trail down to the water, and then headed north to the VM. I enjoyed the run. If you are looking for something challenging this is not it, but if you want a quiet trail with rolling hills try this one.
