Tryon Park, while conveniently located and very nicely shaded, was not quite what I wanted in a hike. I will start by saying it is most likely better suited for mountain biking - we saw several bikers, and they were all respectful of our space, but you will need to pay attention as they come down some of the winding terrain! This trail is very close to the 590 highway, and because of that, the street noise is very apparent. It is not a trail in which you feel immersed in nature. Next, we encountered a pretty rancid sewer smell during many parts of the hike. Also, we did encounter some very cool and colorful graffiti, which I enjoyed but others might find to detract from the nature setting. Lastly, the trail is desperately in need of more markings. We got lost several times! (The more I recall, the more I am debating changing this review to 2 stars!) Overall, this hike offered some nice elevation changes and a lot of woodsy drop-offs, but I would not recommend it if you are looking to escape the city or listen to the tranquil sounds of nature. You will not experience much tranquility here.

Rated "easy", but it's moderate. I ran into a couple who went here expecting an easy trail, (the wife used a cane), and they turned away. I would describe this as a "scribble trail." like if you gave a three year old a crayon and asked them to draw something. Multiple trail variations, not well marked. There were some mountain bikers, there are bike ramps etc. so I would recommend for mountain biking. That being said, it's nature near the city of Rochester.

Overall this trail is good. However my son and I decided to hike this trail based off the rating as “easy”. This definitely is not. This is a moderate trail. There are easy parts to it but there are also a lot of elevation changes. We got stuck in a huge downpour and the lack of trail markings had us off course. Thanks to my app I was able to navigate us out. Mosquitoes and deer flies are an issue here so definitely use bug spray.

Nice trail with some beautiful spots along the way. It was poorly marked and I had to back track in a few spots. At one point you have to walk on the street and the path to get back on the trail isn’t clearly marked either.

Never before have I been so attacked by bugs while mountain biking. It was the worst. Horseflies and mosquitoes were everywhere. On top of that, while I've been here before (last year) to mountain bike, I forgot how poorly marked everything is. Honestly, nothing is marked at all. It can be fun if you like very technical riding and have a full suspension bike, but to me, when it gets really technical, it stops being fun. I won't be coming back.

This trail is not easy. I would say moderate. It is very noisy from Route 590 and not marked well at all.

While I enjoyed this trail it was not easy. I would classify as moderate. The loop also came to a road and it was unclear where to pick up the loop. The loop was also not marked but some of the other trails were marked.

Cool web of trails, had to cut in half, wandered around in April and was pretty dry after a rain the day before

Very noisy with traffic. Beautiful views once you get hidden in the woods but you can still hear 590. Not great trail markers either. Without the map we would have gotten lost.

This is a beautiful trail but NOT for biking. Too steep, lots of bare roots, and need to weave in & out of trees. I don't know why this is marked "easy", it must be a typo. I would say this is a challenging hiking trail, for sure.

Pretty. I could see where i kayak in the warmer weather. Very poorly marked. Monroe County has some work to do. Glad to have water & highway as points of reference for where I was. I’d rather do a more hikers less bikers trail.

Great long trail along water and n hills. Only problem is no mountain bikers have any etiquette... is it so hard to tell someone walking their dog that your coming up.. wtf

The sign with the map in the parking lot says that these are black diamond mountain biking trails, and new visitors would be wise to heed that. These aren't easy trails to mountain bike, and shouldn't be done by beginners. For hiking, sure, it's accessible to pretty much anybody, so just be aware. Honestly, I don't think Tryon is as much fun to bike as, say, Dryer Road Park or Bay Park West, largely because the trails are so technical.

One of my favorite Rochester mtn biking parks. GROC has done a great job maintaining these trails. I also frequent these trails for running with my dogs
