Hiked this on Saturday from N to S. Quite a few trees were down but nothing that was hard to get past, just a little annoying. I didn't notice any great water sources in the first 25 miles but there were a few after the road crossing by Hancock, MA. Overall the trail was well marked. Took us 14:30 including a 50 minute (!) break at mile 24 where we stashed water/food. Drank about 4 liters on a rainy day in the first 24 mi and another 2.5 in the last section.
Hiked the Ultra Traverse today. Kinda boring scenery for 38.4 miles. Missed some turns due to no arrows along the 4 wheeler trails. Didn’t see anyone else on the day for the entire length...that tells you all you need to know about the scenery.
No views, just constant slog through forest. So many fern fields mixed with thorns kept my feet wet the whole time. Good to do once but much better hikes as far as fun and views go.
only did from rt 346 to bald mountain. very steep. good view from a lookout about 2 miles in
This is a long trail with many up and downs-big ones! My friend and I did the entire 37 miles in 14:35 hours.... it was hard, but totally possible. I will say this, be aware, we encountered a man who was at a road crossing near the end of our hike and 5 hours later he was sitting in his car at 1:00am waiting for us at our start car at RT. 20... so scary, beware, and bring a weapon!!
